macedonia is a region. its present day Greece-ish.

I believe it is refering to the call to St. Paul to missions in Macedonia.

It may have to do with this passage:
Act 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul during the night: a certain man of Macedonia was standing, entreating him and saying, Passing over into Macedonia, help us!
Act 16:10 And when he saw the vision, we immediately sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to announce the gospel to them.

In Acts chapter 16, the apostle Paul is considering where to go next in his preaching tour. He considers going into several parts of Asia, but is prevented by God. Finally, during the night, he has a dream in which a man from Macedonia ask him to come there with “the light” of the gospel. His trip through Macedonia would take Paul from there into Europe, where the gospel would have its greatest impact. So being sent somewhere by God to preach is called a “Macedonian call”.
