Would “here I Am Lord” Be A Good Hymn To Include In A Roman Catholic Wedding Ceremony?

Filed in Category - Catholic Hymn Lyrics

Just wondering if the lyrics are wedding appropriate enough… this hymn has always been one of my favourites!

I think so. That’s always been one of my favourite hymns. I hear that Josh Groban sings a version, & his voice is just beautiful. Perfect for a wedding?

Dan Schutte’s hymn? Why not? The inspiration for the hymn seems to be in the Psalms and in Isaiah 6:8
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’”
    1.
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
    My hand will save.
    Chorus
Here am I, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
    2.
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
    Whom shall I send?
    Chorus
    3.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
    They turn away.
    Chorus
    4.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
    Whom shall I send?
    Chorus
    5.
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
    My hand will save.
    Chorus
    6.
    Finest bread I will provide,
    ‘Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
    Whom shall I send?
    Chorus

Really, only your priest and person in charge of music can tell you that. I have found there are a LOT of variations between parishes and some are more progressive than others. It took a lot at our church to move beyond Ave Maria (predictable and BORING) but my friends priest allowed anything! Ask at your church!

    Yes.
Being married is a vocation and a sacramental calling.
Both you and your new husband are saying in one voice, “Here I am, Lord!”
    Congratulations!
    With love in Christ.

It’s a wonderful hymn, but not really bridal.
How about “Let me be your Servant” http://rockhay.tripod.com/worship/music/…

Yes, it’s a lovely song. I love it, too. Talk to your priest about appropriate placement, though.

Oh dear! It’s YOUR wedding! YOU are the one getting married to your husband! I say speak with your pastor. They will know the rules better than anyone on Yahoo!
