Why is it so hard for me to learn to worship God from deep with my spirit? Is it because I’m a guy?

Filed in Category - Learn To Sing Hymns

I realize there are many factors, but I find it difficult to bring out any honest feelings while trying to worship God. I recognize the beauty of things and wonder of creation, but I’m honestly distracted easily while I try to find those deep, God-loving feelings that are necessary for true worship. And I’m not talking about singing Hymns and Praying. I’m talking about true Union with God, listening, and connecting my spirit with him. HOW???
To darkee13: Check my other questions. I do learn about other religions. I already know where my beliefs are, but you are right, that until you explore, you will never know that what you believe has real purpose. By the way, Budhism is not a religion. Read up on it a little and you’ll see why. I’m not calling it a cult either.
That last comment about Buddhism on the previous detail was not meant for darkee13. Sorry about that, it was from something I was reading from one of my answered questions.
Wow, I never imagined I would get this much response. There are alot of things that you have all mentioned which can be possibilities. I will tell you that this is something I want. I know I don’t have to do it, but I know it’s what we’re made for.

It is possible that there may be some shred of doubt about the existance of God that is subconscious, which is very hard to admit. Reading and praying are things that I did for as long as I can remember. And sincerity is not really an issue, except when trying to find the depth of it. I talk with God, and I get frustrated sometimes when I feel like he’s ignoring me, but for the most part I understand that I have a sin barrier, and sometimes the answer is not immediate. I’ve had some really deep revelations in the past, so I’m not inexperienced with listening to God. I read the Bible constantly, because I enjoy learing new things from it. The problem is I’m looking for that deep connection, the one that leaves you not feeling hungry.

You need to spend more time in prayer and contemplation by yourself. Just you and the creator.

everyones walk with god is different. god doesn’t punish you for being “distracted” just keep the faith read the wrod as much as you can.

Maybe you are not proud of something you did in the past and that keeps you from opening up more for God.Just don’t forget He already knows your difficulties. Just give it some more time and keep believing. I think being a guy has nothing to do with it.

Maybe you are trying to hard. We might not always FEEL God but we go by FAITH that he is there.

    Listen. . .

God speaks to everyone, but so many aren’t listening. Mostly because God isn’t saying what they want to hear.

I don’t think it is a “guy thing”, being a guy myself, I actually find it easy to worship, through prayer, reading, and meditation on the mysteries of my faith. During the day, when my family is awake it is difficult, because there are so many things going on.

I wake up very early in the morning, or stay up very late at night and spend some very quiet time, in the dark, with God. We talk. It isn’t your standard prayer type of talk, just talk, like you would to a good friend. (more of a Contemplative type of prayer).

    It works for me.

I know this isn’t an answer but, I thank you for your question. I have often felt the same way and I’m a female. These answers give me a little insight. Thanks!

The fact that you are a man has nothing to do with it. God created you in His image after all. The Bible teaches that sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2) and so thats why Jesus had to die for us, to destroy this dividing wall of sin. Therefore, the only way to achieve perfect communion with God is through His Son, to participate and follow in his footsteps of his life, his death, and resurrection.

I know where you are coming from. from the fact that we are guys, intimacy with God just seems a little out there. but the reason that its not weird for us to absolutely LOVE God is that it is what we were created for. trying to love anything else intimately would just be off, but this is what we were designed to do.

Now, I TOTALLY know what you’re talking about when you’re trying to press in during worship, but there just doesn’t seem to be any depth to it. there are a couple of things to think about here…

    1) if we are trying to get closer to God, and really spend time with him, the way to do it is outlined in James 4:8-10

“(8) Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (9) Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. (10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

when we humble ourselves before God, he comes to us.

    2) the other thing you must realize about worship, and nobody likes to hear this, but its true: worship isn’t about you. soemtimes God speaks to us and reveals himself to us in worship, but that isn’t why we worship. we worship God cuz he deserves it. because he created us in his image, sent his Son down to earth to pay the price for our sins, and made a way for us to be with him for eternity.

“Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name;Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 29:2

our worship should be out of a humble gratitude, our way to thank God for everything he has done, tell him that we love him.

my last suggestion is that if you want to learn to worship God deeper, study the Psalms. David KNEW how to worship God, and God called David ” A man after MY own heart…” Acts 13:22

thats where I would start. and pray about it. ask God to show you how to worship with everything inside of you.

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

and when you are distracted, remember to KEEP WORSHIPPING!!! even if you don’t feel like it.

“commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established” Proverbs 16:3

    hope that helps :-D

Is it possible that you have conflicting thoughts as to the existence of god? How do you feel when you ask this of yourself. If it is possible that you could think “Maybe”, then you need to reevaluate your faith. i.e. jump in with both feet if you do believe. Don’t worry if there is a “Maybe” in there. It doesn’t mean you have become an atheist. But it may just be enough for you to know why you don’t feel that special connection.

It can be a shock for a man to love God who uses the pronoun “He.”

It can be a shock for a man to realize that Jesus is returning as the bridegroom for his faithful believers who will become His bride.

(That is ~proof~ that Christianity is not ‘anti-female!’)

First, I think you have to want to worship Him, then learning His word will follow. You make it sound like its something you have to do. If it’s something you want to do it will happen. Gender plays no role in this. Pray for a deeper connection and it will happen. Amen. (So be it)

I suspect it is because deep down inside, you are an intelligent person that realizes the whole concept of god is bogus.

  15. jess1978 on July 8, 2010 5:16 am

You say you’re having a hard time opening up to God? Is there any sin or unforgiveness you’re having trouble letting go of ? (I know we all sin, but I mean something that has a place in your heart ) These are MAJOR hindrances to prayer!

it’s ok to hunger with God and questioning stuff. It’s a true passion to want to know to come closer to God and get all up in it, and have God get all up in you.

This worked for me. I had to ask God into me.
Even though God had always been a part of me.
I always search and always ask. I don’t judge my asking or wanting to know more. I periodically rip down my beliefs to see if they are true and still something I believe in.

I ask God why it says in the bible a lot of things that are difficult for me to believe about the position of women in it.

Something such as that are going to be unsettled in me.

and I’m ok with being unsettled with what the bible says.
I don’t live in ancient times I live in the now.

Mostly, just being grateful for what I had was a really good start. The more grateful I was the more I was able to get closer

Maybe learn to worship yourself and honor all parts of yourself and you’ll learn to worship God

and yes it is a very personal thing. Have you tried asking God what to do? and then just sitting and seeing what comes up from that inner knowing voice within?
