Why Do People Keep Confusing The Modern State Of Israel With The Biblical One?

For some people, the modern Zionist state of Israel is just the latest incarnation of the holy kingdoms of David and Solomon.
I couldn’t see it in more different terms: Not only was the modern state founded as a secular, godless nation by atheists and marxists alike, it goes against the central rabbinic teaching that the Jews are only to return en masse when the Messiah comes and establishes an era of peace – when the lion lies down next to the sheep ( Isaiah). This is because the last time a fanatical Jewish nationalist tried to create an Israeli state by force of arms, ie. the revolt of Simon bar Kokhba, it was eventually crushed by the Romans and thousands slaughtered.
Moreover, in both Judaism and Christianity, the name “Israel” has a spiritual meaning, as many a psalm or hymn attests, and is not some sort of genealogical or ethnic definition.
Jesus said “he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.”: this was true of bar Kohkba, it seems also true that “he who lives by the uzi shall die likewise.”

But yes, to answer your question, people often do whatever is convenient for their ends. I’m not trying to say this in a conspiratorial tone – it’s just a matter of human nature. There’s a lot some people have to gain by claiming that modern Israel is the work of a god, and comparatively little to lose.
I completely disagree pastor . In God’s eyes they are just the same, And when he talks about Israel in the then and now in the bible and in the prophetic future sense, He makes no distinction like your making here. God bless .

Hello..well first of all there is only one nation of Israel old and new testament the bible says that Israel is the apple of God’s eye..one thing we all should know is that the land and country were the the people of Israel live belongs to the people of Israel and not the people of Palestine and the Israeli’s have every right to defend there country…God told Abraham that you and your people will posses the land and that is the promise land were moses led the children of Israel into but he himself was not aloud to go in…The land then is the same as to day ain’t nothing change..The goal of the Muslims is to drive the Jews away from there land but the land belongs to them as the book of Revelation says them (Muslims) want to drive the nation of Israel into the sea but God will always come through for his people now i could explain allot more because it goes very deep but one thing i will say there is a day appointed by the man Jesus Christ were God will judge those who tried to destroy his people the will of God will always prevail over the destruction of man’s conquest…
