If you simply must have role models, switch over to opera for a couple of hours, and listen to such greats as Hans Hotter, Nikolai Ghiaurov, Martti Talvela, Kurt Moll, and Gottlob Frick. There's even a youtube site called operamania that will give a listen! listen to your teacher!
