It depends on the occasion or setting.
    What’s the occasion?
For a baptism: You will want to sing a hymn that is familiar to most and easy to sing. Primary songs are great for baptisms. (8yr old or convert)
    Come follow me 116
Lord I would follow thee 220
    I am a child of God 301
Teach me to walk in the light 304
Love One Another 308 (Short, and everyone will know the words if you don’t have hymn books in the room)
I know that my Redeemer lives 136 (little long; sometimes I will do 1st and 4th verse)
I’ll go where you want me to go 270
Because I have been given much 219 (my favorite)
Here are a few that would be very well known by everyone.

you are correct about youth bands i visited a pentalcostal church for free breakfast. and at least one sunday the pastor got up for 5 min and talked about tithing and the rest of the day they sang songs.
i do like lds hymns, im not much of a fan of live contemporary christian band music, but some of it is so much “worship” i dont know how anyone can disagree, but i do disagree with loud volume.
i like adam ondhi ahman, or the song which sing if i could fly to kolob. its been a while since ive heard it.
my grandmother loves/d the tabernacle quior

Son, I have 150 blocked people who routinely give anti-Mormon answers. You see they have nothing better to do than watch the screen for anything remotely related to “Mormon”.
Delete this question and try asking without the keyword Mormon. Ask in a different section for music. You’ll get fewer answers, but they will likely be from LDS, not trolls.

+++”There Is Power In The Blood” “There Is A Fount Filled With Emanuel’s Blood” “Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus” “Alas, And Did My Savior Bleed” “Are You Washed In The Blood” ” The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power ” “Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing” ” Praise For Redeeming Love ” ” Jesus, Thy Blood And Righteousness
” “The Old Rugged Cross” “Washed In The Blood Of The Lamb” “Beneath The Cross Of Jesus” “Calvary” “When I See The Blood” “O The Blood Of Jesus” “Near The Cross” “At The Cross” +++ Revelation 12 (Amplified Bible)
10Then I heard a strong (loud) voice in heaven, saying, Now it has come–the salvation and the power and the kingdom (the dominion, the reign) of our God, and the power (the sovereignty, the authority) of His Christ (the Messiah); for the accuser of our brethren, he who keeps bringing before our God charges against them day and night, has been cast out!
11And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death [holding their lives cheap till they had to die for their witnessing]. Isaiah 42:10 (Amplified Bible)
10Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise from the end of the earth! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, the islands and coastal regions and the inhabitants of them [sing a song such as has never been heard in the heathen world]!
Psalm 149:1 (Amplified Bible) 1PRAISE THE Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, praise Him in the assembly of His saints! Psalm 98:1 (Amplified Bible) 1 O SING to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have wrought salvation for Him. Psalm 96:1 (Amplified Bible)1 O SING to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!

I’m surprised that nobody has suggested The Spirit of God yet. That is probably my favorite because of a special occasion that I had during my freshman year at BYU way back in the spring of 1970.
I also am very fond of Shall The Youth of Zion Falter.

One of my most favorites was actually in the prior Hymnal “Come Thou Fount< of Every Blessing>” – I wish they’d put it back in….
“How Great Thou Art” is another fav –
    “How Firm a Foundation”
    “Come Come Ye Saints”

Abide With Me; Tis Eventide. When they sang this one in “The Other Side of Heaven,” I cried.

I love #86 How Great Thou Art.
My husband likes “I know that my Redeemer lives” (forget the number)
Be still my soul is a good one.
    What’s the occasion?

    I Believe in Christ

I love A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief – especially the last three verses. And O My Father, is a favorite. Along with the Iron Rod – but sung up tempo.
But I also really like it when a choir or group sings the lyrics of one song to the tune of another. For example the lyrics of I Know That My Redeemer Lives to the tune of A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief. Or vice versa. Look in the Meters section of the hymn book for others.
EDIT: Ah! A Baptism. Well, I went with The Iron Rod, as one of my baptism songs. I don’t remember the other one, but I think it was Come Come Ye Saints – just not sure.

  15. Michael on October 18, 2009 8:07 am

My favorite Mormon song is “My Magic Underwear are Spiffy”

  16. Progress on October 18, 2009 8:09 am

What the hell do hymms do anyways? “Oh yea i feel so much closer to god now that i sung that” “Im so much closer to my church friends now”
“man i love rehearsing the same damn song over and over, it never gets boring”
    Yeaaa right…
Edit: Okay, i dont really see what the point in celebrating god. I just think of it as unnatural for a “God” to be like HEY im god! Whats up, looks like you guys suck at life, heres a tablet of everything you have to do. Anyways PEACE (btw celebrate me)
