Do you think the performing arts should be included in normal school curriculums (not just in special schools)? (Why?/ Why not?)

    Oh my, yes!
I started stage acting at the age of 8 in our city’s Junior Community Players. Not only does it help a child’s imagination, it also develops their reading skills, and public speaking skills. When having to do reports in front of a class later in school, it helps them to speak to the class, whilst periodically checking their speech, instead of the dumb jock, who stares at his paper the whole time and haltingly reads his report, stumbling over words. What a great self esteem builder it is. It also helps them to develop social skills and teamwork abilities, since to perform a play all the actors and stage hands must work together as a team or they all look bad.
There’s no greater feeling to a young child(or an old man for that matter) to do something in front of others and receive applause for a job well done.
plus the kids you work with usually become great friends because of the shared “ordeal” and success.
I don’t know how I would have turned out had I not been an actor at a young age. That experience also helped when I started playing guitar at about the same time. It was almost “natural” to play for others. So it helped me become a professional guitarist as well for I was not shy at all about performing.
Actually it was when I wasn’t performing that I felt awkward.

It is my personal opinion that performing arts is a great way to build self esteem and confidence. Sometimes kids who have problems in other areas excel in acting or music. Everybody needs something that makes them feel good about themselves. I have five kids, most of them sing or play music and they are really fun to be around.

Even if not taken to the extreme, peforming arts do develop confidence, poise, timing, preparation. You’ll admit, those things are transferable skills in adulthood, useful in almost any career. You have to sell yourself to get a job and to sell your ideas at meetings to your co-workers or in team building as a leader. Learning to control stage fright at an early age is easier than trying as an adult.

Probably the best thing a kid could do is perform in front of people. Do it enough times, it becomes less scary. Kids who are able to speak up or perform in front of people will eventually gain confidence in life. I started an instrument and had to compete in front of people as an adult. It took me about 10 times before my knees stopped shaking. Wish I had performed more as a kid in front of people.

    Yes, absolutely.
The arts build confidence, discipline, patience, timing, feelings, empathy, sympathy, balance, poise, grace, also history, and I could go on and on.
It’s extremely good for shy children because they are “not themselves” when they perform.

    Yes.
To be honest, at least partly because it’s scary. I did music exams throughout my childhood and I was terrified every time.
I wasn’t terrified when I came to important written exams. Sit in a hall with 100 other people and write on a piece of paper? What’s scary about that, compared to one chance to play your piece right and that’s it?

Oh definitely! It gives kids a way to use a different part of their brain. It can also help shy kids come out of their shell a little:)

Yes because it builds confidence and character.

Of course they should. The arts are a creative outlet for kids that builds confidence.
