What impact does the book of Psalms give you?

Filed in Category - Psalms Book One

I call the Psalms,”vitamin c for the soul” because whenever I read them, it quickly gives me more peace than anything in the world. My profile name is Psalm 27 because that one is my favorite. How do the Psalms effect you or what do you get out of them?

I’ve never heard them described like that. :) But I think it’s an accurate description. The Psalms do give you a boost. There is one for every kind of mood, I think. They make wonderful prayers. 51 is my favorite.

The impact the book of Psalms gives me depends on how hard it’s thrown at me.

Encouragement and insights into the character and love of God.

Psalms 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. 9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

I agree that the Psalms are wonderful. They are filled with hope for desperate times. They are a great refuge for comfort.

    That’s funny you should ask.
My life verse is Psalm 27.1
” The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid.”
This particular verse spoke to me when my mom was dying from cancer( even though she’s Saved it was still hard to swallow). Even though I was afraid, through God’s word he showed me that I didn’t need to be afraid. That helped me daily as I was dealing with losing my mother and then when she died. I found great comfort in the Scriptures but that verse really touched me.

    Dear Friend,

I agree with you. The Book of Psalms brings peace to the soul as well as encouragement, hope and comfort.

Thank you Lord for giving us such a wonderful Book to lean on. Thank you for knowing that we need “food for our souls.”

Psalms 51 is my favorite (for now). It gives me hope and joy. It acknowledges sin, forgiveness and renewal. I used to think it was up to me to have a pure heart but once I read it and a dear friend pointed out it says “Create in me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me.” I understood his love and forgiveness and provision even more. Another one that I love is 63rd. Because thy loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
God is true to his word, he will save those who do his will, who follow his Son. How wonderful to know we have him on our side, watching over us no matter what is going on around us. To know he is in control and will never allow anything we can’t handle with him to overcome us is fantastic.
Someone wrote they gained comfort when they lost their mother. When my brother died unexpectedly and I was holding his hand I kept thinking “Don’t ever be afraid of anything again, you are going to handle this and anything else in life.” I know that was the Holy Spirit giving me strength right then and there and that is how our Father works. I am iced in this morning and so glad I checked your question out, I am happy and not feeling like I am missing out on worship with others today. Bless you all
