Because the views of Many Christians and the teachings of Christ are nothing like each other. For the most part…
From what I can tell, the Sermon on the Mount was meant for anybody who heard it at the time, and it is still meant for us today. What we know to be true is that not all “believers” agree on everything about Jesus and his teachings, and there’s however much room there is for difference of opinion among both believers and non-believers. Hopefully, we can all be nicer and more loving to each other when we discuss subjects like this.
One – The Sermon on the Mount was, indeed, not meant for “Christians”, for there were none there to listen to it. The truth of Matthew 5 is for ALL people!. It matters not what your religion, creed, race, sex, etc…… all people desire the same things in/from life. The Sermon on the Mount reinforces these behaviors that we should all embrace, not just towards each other, but to God, also.
Two – “believers” are not believing what Christ told us because for it to take effect, one must sacrifice of oneself to accomplish it. As you are to sacrifice to your spouse you should sacrifice to all people. As you love your spouse, you should find the strength to love all people. Can’t do it – huh? Right. One cannot do this until the essence of Christ is poured into you. Only then will you find the strength and courage to face the obstacles that other place before you. THis goes for your spouse, family, children, too.
With the extent of post-modern relativism holding us captive to the traits of greed, pride and narcissism – one cannot ever hope to put the doctrines that Jesus espoused into practice.
(And every year – it seems to get worse.)
The Sermon on the Mount was meant for the crowd to understand that Jesus was denouncing the Judaism. He held out the only salvation would come thru him and his new message of Christianity not Zionism (the anti-christ)…Muslims accept Jesus as a messenger of God and Jews do not! Jews are the material world of Devil worship. The money handlers Jesus cast out became todays Zionists!
Sermon on the Mount is a radical teaching and many left Jesus even then…I wonder why to trade eternal life for something else.
Jesus rose the bar on law. He offers grace, he was the perfect sacrifice for our sins, everybody qualifies to heaven when we follow Jesus
When Jesus was asked how we should pray, He started, “Our Father who art in Heaven.” Clearly, Christ was teaching us to follow God and not the works of the devil. What was the works of the devil?
The devil approved the knowledge of good and evil which God told Eve to leave alone. Where is the knowledge of good and evil written down? In the law. What does Paul say causes sin? The law, which is the false god we are all forced by arms to bow to, that runs this world instead of our Creator.
The idea that Jesus and Paul were steering people in different directions is for those who do not understand the main purpose of the Bible which is to follow God, not man.
This not the Sermon on the Mount, but, if JESUS is consistent in HIS commitment toward us then this statement should clear up your misconception:
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
This statement is from the Last Supper. However, HIS ultimate goal was to suffer the penalty for sin so that we do not have to.
More can be said.
GOD bless
I don’t understand what your talking about. Christ taught the sermon on the mound. So for believers to follow the teachings, and lessons learned from that sermon, we would be following Christ own teachings.
The Sermon on the Mount is pure law.
Nobody can be saved by law.
Jesus said He is going to the cross to die and shed His blood, so that whoever believes in Jesus without adding their own works, is saved (John 3:16).
it was not intended to support Paul’s gospel since Paul himself said he was not building on another’s gospel or foundation, for he came chiefly to pastor the Gentiles who were not of the same thought
The sermon on the mount parallel parts of Rev., it is against christianity. It is gaining ground because it is true.
I. Jesus was not a christian he was a jewish rabbi.
2. Jesus was talking to his disciples not to the great unwashed ie not to everyone. lol
I and many Christians I know believe Christ’s teachings incl the Sermon on the Mount.
Got to love those Romans .
They are just the same.
