The oldest English hymn is probably “All People That On Earth Do Dwell” also known as “Old Hundreth” because it is based on Psalm 100. It dates from at least 1561.
The oldest known Christian hymn in any language is probably Philippians 2:6-11.

I think easily the most popular hymn is “Amazing Grace”, which almost every person in Western Civilization knows the first stanza of, or at least the tune of, whether they are religious or not. I don’t know about the oldest, because it’s hard to say with hymns that may not have been officially written down until decades later. From the very earliest days of the Bible though, many people sang the Psalms, so I suppose you could say those are the oldest hymns.
