There are ignorant people everywhere. Satan doesn’t praise Christ’s name. That’s enough reason to reject the “christian rock is Satan’s music” lie.
it is not literally glorifying satan, so i don’t think the term satanic is warranted.aside from the lyrics, i don’t think rock music is inherently evil, either. however, i was a christian all throughout childhood so i listened to a lot of christian rock, and there is one aspect to this that i don’t like. it seems that many churches are becoming increasingly “accomodating” in an effort to attract more visitors. christians are told we are not of this world, so when it gets difficult to tell the difference between a christian and secular song there is a problem. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so what does it say about christians when their music imitates secular music. this is not even the real issue though. the problem is when pastors cut time from and change their message in order to listen to music and “worship” because people will decide to join the church solely based on the music. one youth service i went to only had about 15 minutes of actual “discussion” while the rest of the time they turned the lights low and blared the “christian rock” music while the kids “worshipped”, talked, or played grab ***. it was like a concert(sometimes a live band would play on the stage). this was every single youth service, wednesday and sunday nights. and the adults, while the music was a different type, were not much better, as the bulk of the time in there was spent doing the same thing. even on sunday morning the best music to preaching ratio was 50/50. and even then preachers are turning into politicians, saying whatever the people want to hear. “god will bless yo with personal and financial riches if you trust him enough to give offerings and pay your tithes”, or joel olsteen who sees christianity as nothing more than a self-help program(which is a part of it, but joel preaches like that is the whole of it) the religion is being watered down. fellowship should involve the meeting, exchanging, critiquing and formation of ideas. it should be more like school. people should go to bible studies more, and not these cookie-cutter church services.don’t take offense,SOME churches are like this, NOT ALL.
also, sometimes a band may use christian music as a launch into the mainstream. thier lyrics are usually somewhat ambiguous so it will have a better chance of being picked up and played by secular radio and listeners.
in short no it’s not “satan’s music” but it does seem like an attempt to mimic secular music, which is likely what makes your chuch uncomfortable with it, although that doesn’t make the old stuff any better.
(sorry for the rant)
The church said the same thing about the old hymns we sing today when they were first written. They thought they were too racy. Ask them to provide Bible references to support their arguement. Take each song/ body of work and decide if it is indeed glorifying to God. Decide if you are really thinking about God when you’re listening.
I like it too…though at my rapidly advancing age, I’m preferring the softer “pop / hip-hop” style (e.g., Toby Mac, Third Day) these days…
I think people spend too much time putting God in a box defined by their own perception. They feel “uplifted” by the “old hymns” so God must like them too…and other types of Christian music makes the feel uncomfortable so God must be offended by those songs. In my years as a Christian (30+), I’ve known people who thought all sorts of things were offensive to God: women who wear pants to church (or anywhere), pastors that don’t wear a suit and tie (or a robe), the use of any musical instruments in worship (except perhaps an organ/piano), skirts above the knee (or mid-calf), pierced ears, gold jewelry, women not wearing a hat (or other head covering) in church, certain translations of the bible, dancing, drinking, using wine during communion (or not using real wine) and much much more.
The way I see it, if listening to Christian rock keeps your sights focused on God, if it makes you feel energized and excited about learning God’s plan for your life, then he is quite pleased with it. Those that don’t get the same benefits can and should just not listen to it…to each his or her own!
I am not a big fan of rock music and I have also heard people saying that christian rock is satanic but I dont think so. Once music is played and written with a pure and sincere heart – it should be okay. You see the nature of rock music itself tends to give way for it to be called satanic or bad and I cant see myself listening to rock music and trying to understand the message of Christ while the loud guitar is pounding away. I think the message would be lost in the clutter.
There is nothing wrong with christian rock music. I prefer the older traditional hymns the majority of the time, but I also like some of the rock music. The Bible says to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Songs and music that praise the Lord is not music that Satan wishes to hear or be associated with.
The Churches are not an actual reflection of true Christianity. They haven’t been since the formation of the Roman Catholic Church. Protestant are the little bebe kids of the RCC so they are not true Christians either. It doesn’t matter if it’s rock or the old hymals they are all products of the antichrists that have flooded the earth like John said they would. This is how we know the end is almost here as we are in the last hour and you are arguing over nothing since all that music is Satanic in origin.
Next time someone tells you that christian rock is of the devil, you ask them to pull out their bible and show you exactly where that might be. Those who are telling you this are pushing their own personal opinions and trying to say its from God. If they want to get silly about types of music you can happily point out that hymns did not exsist in the times of the bible. People usually sang their praises or played harps, cymbols, trumpets, drums, guitarish instruments sorry for them but praise music is joyess and to each there own. Find a church that is more alive in the Spirit of Christ and not bogged down with tradition and old man made ideas
They’re letting it fall into a stereotype. The music, itself, is not want makes something evil or not, it’s the lyrics that determine what the song means. I love metal and I’m a Christian. There are many mental songs out there from nonChristian artists that aren’t evil either, but you just have to pick and choose. I’m on your side. I think Christian rock/mental is awesome and I think it’s great that Christian music is expanding out like that. Skillet, POD, Pillar and so many others are opening doors through their music, not taking people away from Jesus.
PEACE
It is definitely NOT Satan’s music!! if some people prefer the old hymns then good for them. But you are really meant to praise God in a way that you love and that you really mean it. If you do not like the old hymns, then obviously you are just singing words but not putting any meaning into them. But what you are really supposed to do is mean all your praise and worship with all your heart, or its just useless singing. If you like Christian rock music, then you can actually enjoy your praise and worship and fully mean it. Church doesnt have to be a strict, quite place with way too many rules and guidelines to follow. It is meant to be a place where people come together, talk about God, praise Him, and just have a good time. So whoever say Christian rock music is Satan’s music, they are wrong. If you prefer it, it is better than the old hymns. My Church happens to use Christian rock/pop music for all their praise and worship. A grear Christian band are Hillsong. You should try them is you dont already know about them.
Nah, if you want to listen to some satanic music check out one of my favorite bands, Caliban. What on Earth is Satan’s music anyway? God, do you religious people actually think you know what Satan listens to? Do you ever stop and think how silly you appear?
Edit: Three people officially know exactly what Satan listens to, or at least claim to in order to give me thumbs down.
something that you have to realize is that rock music as well as hip hop, R&B, soul, and pop is all derived from Vodoo. Which is of course satan worship. It was started in Haiti and came to America through New Orleans. Vodoo is the orginator of the drums and they used the drums to get people to zone out and go into a trance like state. This stuff is all documented if you do some research you can find it. Im not saying its satanic, but you need to know where it comes from. Also the term Rock&Roll orginally meant to have sex(and not the marriatal kind)
God Bless
If I’m not mistaken, the tune to which Martin Luther set his famous hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is our God” is an old German drinking song. His reply to critics? “Why should we let the devil have all the good tunes?”
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness, and come before His presence with a song. (Ps 100)
Psalms and The Song of Solomon – Songs!
Angels Sing Praises to God.
Music is BIG in God’s Eyes: Very Important!
So look at music as Spiritual Food.
Junk Food
Fruits and Vegetables
Meats
Junk Food Music is Repetitive, and Annoying
F & V Music is Encouraging or Praise Songs
Meaty Music is Like Hymns – full of Scripture and Doctrines.
You need to have a balanced diet of Music or part of you will yearn for substance, like you would if all you ate were candy bars for a day or two.
Feed your Musical Soul with a Balanced Diet.
I don’t think christian rock is, no.
Although some heavy metal etc [non-christian]
have very bad lyrics and I think arn’t something you should listen to.
It sounds like the people at your church are very traditional/bretherin.
i.e, believe that we should refer to God as thou, thy etc.
they read from the first english translated bible so that there are no mistakes etc.
I think Christian Rock is awesome tbh.
x
Well that right there should show you a prime example of some peoples inability to see anything but their own perspective. If you love your God and you believe that your music praises him than forget everyone else. They are afraid of what they don’t understand. Think for yourself and believe what feels right to you.
its not satans music if its talking about god. Older people that don’t like rock would say that because they are not up to date on the changes in the world. if you ever have to argue it with them just let them read the words and see how its about god and then say “How you sing it should not make a difference”. this will help them better understand it.
Crap don’t tell me that Skillet, Kutless, RED, Building 429, Demon Hunter, Disciples, 12 Stones are all Satan music. As long the lyrics are about worshiping God then you have no fear. Plus take a look at your question : Do you think “christian” music is Satan music? That like, Do you think Praise and Worship music is Satan music? the band that I listed above are all Christian Rock who are Christian and their music is about the faith in God
I think that anything that uplifts your spirit and brings you closer in heart and mind to your Savior Jesus Christ is worth listening to. You can tell right of the bat if the music is uplifting or not or if it puts evil thoughts and desires into your heart. Their are all types of good music that uplift. As for me, I think that their is nothing wrong with Christian Rock Music as long as it uplifts and doesn’t degrade or drive the spirit away.
that’s not true this is a new day and age of Christ the people who told you that are probably living in the old days…. the Church has moved on to bigger and better things… Christain rap, rock and whatever if it fills your spirit with the lord then who cares what anyone says!
I think that it has brought many youth back into churches. My daughter LOVES the HARD christian music. Many youth directors challenge themselves to find Christian alternatives to secular music. They now are more successful than ever. Now, there is no secular band that doesn’t have a Christian counterpart. Excellent reference to parents and grandparent that don’t like the heavy stuff but want to get some for their youth is:http://www.ask.com/bar?q=Christian+Heavy…
I don’t really think there really exists Christian Rock or Christian Pop, I think it’s just Christian lyrics that happen to be put to rock-genre music. So, these people just sound like old farts, because, by that standard, how could the two be any different.
My friends and I have discussed this often. The lyrics are certainly the most important thing. Are they true to Biblical Doctrine, if not it should be thrown out no matter what the style of music. The hard question to answer is this: Can music without lyrics communicate a message? If it can, then It can communicate evil or good without lyrics. My personal complaint is when the style and lyrics are mismatched. A guy screaming in rage “Jesus loves you” just doesn’t do it for me. His words say one thing, his body language and verbal tone says another. The disharmony of the two is chaos. Just my opinion.
Think in terms of this. What would Jesus think?
Surely a Guy like jesus wouldn’t be so narrow minded as to think that the genre of music is going to make it more or less evil.
Oh I just thought of something to add.
Since satan lives in hell he probably wouldn’t listen to rock. he would probably listen to people screaming, the lake of fire etc.
Why should the devil have all the good music?http://www.tangle.com/view_video.php?vie…
Music is nothing more than lyrics and tones. How is playing an A Major chord on the piano somehow more holy than playing it on electric guitar. I think the whole controversy is just old people not liking new music.
If christian rock is satan’s music, then what is this??http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Hv0tsvp…
People from church will tell you everything is a sin and evil. Including picking your nose. lol
Practicing Shaman… quantum physics rocks.
Christian rock is an apalling, church-approved imitation of actual rock.
i think just plain rock is satins music but cristisn rock is shouting to god in a loud way so keep listening to cristian rock music and dont always believe what people tell u
If they call any music “Satans music”, flee the area. Their ignorance may rub off on you.
