Are prayer and hymn books censored?

Filed in The Category - Hymn Books

I was having a discussion with my wife about the ethical implications of Psalm 137; in particular, the last 3 lines (below). She said, ‘that’s funny, I don’t remember that part’, and reached for her prayer book, to find that these 3 lines were not there. Could this be a reason some Christians flatly deny the bible contains this kind of stuff? They are not given the full story.

137:7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
137:8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Is the one book of the Holy Bible actually called Psalms or…?

Filed in The Category - Psalms Book One

…Psalm.

I’ve seen it as Psalm (no ’s’)
And, I’ve seen it as Psalms (with an ’s’)

Which one is technically correct?

i found two books from the 1600s!?

Filed in The Category - Psalms Book Two

I can’t find any info on these two books I found this weekend. Does anyone have an idea???

The first was printed in London in 1639, entitled “A Patterne of Catechisticall Doctrine”. Underneath the title it says: “Wherein many profitable questions touching Christian Religion are handled. /AND/ The whole Decalogue succinctly and judiciously expounded.” Underneath this is a symbol, and at the bottom it says “Printed for William Garrett.” The last page lists several authors.

The other book is also from London, but printed in 1692. It’s called “Truth Soberly Defended.” by Isaac Marlow. It says that it is “a serious reply to Mr. Benjamin Kreach’s book entitled ‘The Breach in God’s Worship; or Singing of Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs, proved to be an Holy Ordinance of Jesus Christ.”

Both books have ‘F’s instead of ‘S’s in a lot of words.

Does anyone have an idea of wat these are worth or anything at all? Thanks for any information. I’m really excited to have found these books!

What’s a good (current and Christian) song for a teenage girl to learn and sing at church?

Filed in The Category - Learn To Play Hymns

I want to learn a song that I can play on piano and sing at church. I want it to be a song that is kind of young and not like an old hymn. And Maybe somewhat new.
Thanks(:

What impact does the book of Psalms give you?

Filed in The Category - Psalms Book One

I call the Psalms,”vitamin c for the soul” because whenever I read them, it quickly gives me more peace than anything in the world. My profile name is Psalm 27 because that one is my favorite. How do the Psalms effect you or what do you get out of them?

How does a Christian deal with impatience?

Filed in The Category - Christian Deals

There is something I would like to happen…but its taking a long time and its rather frustrating. As a new Christian, being impatient doesn’t quite seem right. What are the best ways to deal with it?
…since posting this I realise the obvious answer is prayer and trust in God!!!
