A simple question. I know it may be hard for some. Mine are The Sprit of God and As Zion’s Youth in Later Days. Those are my two favorites. Although when I was younger I loved to sing Love at Home a lot.

I have been singing in church, I mean up front, not just in the congregation, since I was three years old. I started conducting the singing when I was fourteen. I have been in the choirs or leading the choirs and congregation ever since. I have many tender feelings for many of the hymns. However, if forced to choose only one, I would have to say The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning. The reason I choose that one is because of one particular experience at the close of my freshman year at BYU in the spring of 1970. I was leading the singing in priesthood meeting and James Welch was my accompanist. I requested the brethren to stand since this would be our last time together as a priesthood body. James had many personal embellishments to the music and the men sang with missionary zeal. I am getting teary eyed just thinking about it and typing this up. The powerful emotions of tha occasion forever cemented that hymn into my favorite of all times category. Afterwards, many of the RMs came up and thanked me for bringing back the spirit of their missions. There are some songs that cause me to open up my vocal pipes and let it all hang out. This is one of them. When I open up my voice, I can be clearly heard over an entire congregation. That is not necessarily a good thing.but when the power of the song is upon me, I can’t help myself. I have to sing with full voice and full joy of the emotion. The spirit does that to me.

My favorite is “If You Could Hie to Kolob”… if you really read the words, the spirit is very strong in testifying that those words are true.
I also love, Where Can I Turn For Peace, The Spirit of God, Praise to the Man and Come, Come Ye Saints (I almost cry everytime I sing that one).

Totally depends on the mood you are in. Sometimes, nothing beats a good rousing “Praise to the Man”, while other times calls for a More “Holiness Give me”. “If you Could Hie to Kolob” is always a nice one too. Geez, there are TOO MANY TO CHOSE FROM!

I love Joseph Smith’s First Prayer, but can’t sing it … sonds so myuch better when the MTChoir sings it than our little Branch!
Lord I would Follow Thee is one that soothes me when I’m upset.
My Redeemer Lives is an old favorite
I like Nearer My God To Thee, but always think of the Titanic … and the people in the theatre audience that were yelling “Turn! Turn!” … like, hello people, its NOT going to end well! LoL!
I like to sing Rockwell’s “Somebody’s watching me” when I’m at a church, or just thinking about Santa Claus.
I also enjoy “Very Superstious” also when at a service.

hymns i like them but i hear them in spanish as im an spanish speaker 
Come Thou Fount is one of the hymns that I love… It is such a beautiful song to think about and to listen to.

I liked humming Iron butterfly: Inagaddadavida
while in church.
I love “How Great Thou Art” and “Come Thou Font of Every Blessing”. I always feel like getting up and marching when we sing “Called to Serve Him”. It reminds me of my mission.

There are dozens more that I love, two that aren’t in the hymnbook – Come thou font of every blessing is beautiful in words and meaning as well as Ava Maria (which probably won’t make it into the hymnbook ever but I love the sound).

Oh my goodness! That would definitely have to be A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief, with verses 6 and 7 included. They are rarely sung, but they really should be. Eveytime I hear it, especially in Nauvoo or Carthage Jail, I feel the Spirit so strongly, and tears come to my eyes.

**funny story**:
The most memorable time I heard “The spirit of God like a fire is burning”, we happened to have a fire alarm go off right then for a fire drill (I lived in Utah, and Seminary or “release time” was offered as a high school class).
