The wedding is in two weeks, which is plenty of time for me to learn a song. This is my older sister’s wedding, and I’m going to sing while people are being seated and stuff. Something sweet I guess. I’m a first soprano in 2 choirs so i can handle the harder pieces, but I have no idea of what i should do. I was thinking a traditional hymn, but I’m not so sure since the groom isn’t super religious.

Ask the bride and groom if there is something they would like for you to sing first.
Ask them if they have any objections to you singing a hymn.
I like Celine Dion’s songs.
i’ve always loved this song, i’m not sure who its by or what its called… but it goes like this: at last, my love has come along, my lonely days are gone…
it’s such a pretty song! i want that at my wedding! (:

You raise me up
Have you thought about Alisson Krause’s version of “When You Say Nothing At All”? She is a soprano and the song is very fitting for a wedding.
Here are the lyrics
It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don’t say a thing
The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all
All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old mr. webster could never define
What’s being said between your heart and mine
The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all
The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

ETA: The song Colie is talking about is called “At Last” and its by Etta James
I think you should sing Somewhere over the Rainbow. It will sound great with your soprano voice!
If the wedding is in a church you may not be able to choose something secular.
One thing you definitely need to do is check with the accompanist. It won’t do you any good to choose a song that they can not play.
Also you may want to check with your sister to see if she has chosen the music already. Usually there will be preludes chosen.
The most common prelude, used when seating the mothers/families is Ave Maria.
Here are some other popular selections:
Ceremony Song Choices
How Beautiful – Twila Paris
The Wedding Song – Paul Stookey (good for harmony very traditional)
Wherever You Go – Weston Priory/Gregory Norbet
Covenant Hymn – Gary Daigle
Beginning Today – Darryl Ducote
I Am Here – Steven Curtis Chapman
One Hand One Heart (from West Side Story)
Let there Be Peace On Earth – Jill Jackson/Seymour Miller
The Prayer – David Foster/Carol Bayer Sager (recorded by Andreas Bocelli and Celine Dion)
Where There is Love – David Haas
You Raise Me Up – Rolf Lovland & Brendan Graham (recorded by Josh Groban)
At Last by Etta James is beautiful and classic!!
Shania Twain’s “From this Moment On” is a beautiful song perfect for a wedding.
I think Shania Twain and “From this moment” is a lovely idea.
And how about this one although it´s normally sung by two people – Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand “Tell him” … as it´s your sister´s wedding.
I wouldn’t sing anything overly formal just for the seating portion. I’d choose something secular and recognizable. Something relaxing but entertaining. Try something jazzy. Maybe “At Last” (Etta James does a nice version) or Our Love Is Here To Stay (check out Ella Fitzgerald).
Oh and if there is no pianist, you could always purchase a karaoke CDG online. It works just like a CD.
Colbie Callat- Bubbly.
If you listen to country, there is a song by Faith Hill called Lost…WONDERFUL song
Have you ever heard “Your Love is Extravagant”? My sister-in-law sang it at a wedding a few months ago while the wedding party came in, it was beautiful.
