First of all, do not take Ansub’s answer seriously.
A home study course will do nothing for you — voice lessons need to be done live. And emulating the “styles’ of pop singers would be a smart move only if you were currently pursuing a career in that particular field.
But you’re dealing with your school choral music groups, and choral music is its own genre.
So you should seek out a good voice teacher/coach in your town. Perhaps ask the choral director for some recommendations. While you’re at it, ask the director what he/she is looking for when choosing people for the Select Choir, and ask him/her what you should work on to get up to snuff.
If you want to stand out & out sing everyone else you need some really good voice lessons from a celebrity vocal coach.
There is one voice coach that is affordable & has taught Miley Cyrus. He has a home program.
Anyways. Look up some info on Speech Level Singing & Seth Riggs. Micheal Jackson studied & trained his voice with Seth Riggs. As well as Stevie Wonder.
What I’m trying to say is if you want to get good- get yourself a highly credible voice coach that has worked with celebrities & high profile people because I can tell you from first-hand experience most voice coaches will not be able to help you at all.
That’s why you should search for voice techniques used by famous singers because obviously that voice technique has some truth to it- otherwise famous singers wouldn’t be using it… would they?

Perhaps taking some lessons? They should be able to help you with improving your singing. Either way, have fun! Sing from your heart and don’t let anyone discourage you!
