Hey there! I’m happy to see someone young interested in Music!
The fastest way to get involved in singing would be to join the choir at your school or church. You may also be able to join the band at your age, or possibly next year. That is another way to deepen your understanding of music. (Which will make you a better performer in the long run!)
As far as the dancing, you can usually find dance studios in any town, just look in the yellow pages. They cost a bit of money, and often times your local city parks and recreation department will offer classes for kids.
Another place to call is a local community theater. Many have children’s programs, and even if they don’t, they could give you the names of other people in the area who can help.
Remember – in your search for fame, be careful! Always have your parents help you and never go to anyone’s house for ‘lessons’ by yourself, unless your parents have checked it out first.
Whereever you start, you will be being trained. Remember, you arejust learning, and you may have to replace some habits you’ve taught yourself with the tricks the pros use. Take everything your teachers say and do your best to practice until you’ve got it figured out. Before you know it, you’ll be performing! Good Luck!
When I was your age, I developed a deep love of music and sang to the radio constantly. One day, in between songs, I overheard my Dad ask why there was a sick cow in the other room. Do you know, that was too much honesty. I was crushed. However, I was determined to push myself to prove him wrong. I can’t answer for dancing, but here are some tips for singing.
Remember, it isn’t the voice that drives the song. Its the emotion behind the voice. Yes, you need to learn pitch and tone, but you have to feel more than anything. Find a song that brings out so much emotion that you feel like crying, and push that emtion into it. You will surprise yourself.
Buy a guitar tuner and practice hitting tuned pitches on it. This is soooo difficult.
Remember that your voice is an instrument and a tool. It is an extension of you.
Practice deep breathing and listen to when singers take breaths in different songs.
Learn some old stuff. I mean REAL old. From the 30′s for example. I tune my voice using Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and others.
Don’t try to sing like other folks. Sing like YOU.
And finally, never let it become a job. Although music takes a lot of hard work and dedication, don’t think of it as work. Enjoy it.
Well, I have no classes, but if you have an Xbox, Xbox360, GameCube, Wii, PlayStation1, PlayStation2, or PlayStation 3, then you can buy a dance mat, for $20.00-$30.00. And then you can buy a Dance Dance Revolution game. It’s pretty fun. It teaches you how to dance. And then for singing, you can buy a system microphone for about $16.00, and then Karaoke Revolution, for about $20.00-$40.00. Good luck! I hope my answers are honest enough.
