I became very interested in the pipe organ, just memorised by the majestic sound which it produces, so I asked my local vicar if she knew of anyone that could teach my to play the pipe organ. This was in vein, however, because the organists she knew of wanted me to at least have Grade 5 Piano, which I don’t have and am no where near to getting.

But, she said, since my local church’s pipe organ has apparently never worked, I could go to the next village’s Church and play their Victorian pipe organ which has just one manual. I have been using piano music to play hymns and the like on this organ, but instead of using a left hand accompaniment I have been playing the guitar chords with my left hand.

Anyway, what I am REALLY getting at is this:

1) Is it possible to teach yourself to play the pipe organ?
2) Is there anything different about playing the pipe organ to the piano?
3) What do I do with the pedals? >.<

I have been to several weddings recently and as lovely as they are, the bit everyone seems to dread is the hymns and most people either remain silent or just mouth the words. So much so that at the last service, two of the hymns you could not hear anyone singing.

So I was hoping to have gospel songs, services with gospel music are always much more uplifting and if people have songs they know and are more catchy they are more likely to sing along.

Is this a possibility?

But I have to say Im not impressed. Musically its fairly ordinary, diddo for the weak lyrics. She just comes across as a poormans PJ Harvey, better still, a poor mans Patti Smith. And lets face it, Florence wouldnt be in the same league as those two.
Its not a bad record I guess, I mean compared to a lot of the manufactured nonsense out there and all the RnB types featuring each other, sampling songs by better artists. Compared to that its good. But I just expected more giving the acclaim, just dont think shes what shes cracked up to be.

Do you think florence is over rated or is she worthy of the acclaim?
