Be Not Affraid Lyrics

Filed in The Category - Gospel Lyrics

You shall cross the barren desert,
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety,
though you do not know the way.

You shall speak your words in foreign lands,
and all will understand,
You shall see the face of God and live.

Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

If you pass through raging waters
in the sea, you shall not drown.
If you walk amidst the burning flames,
you shall not be harmed.

If you stand before the pow’r of hell
and death is at your side,
know that I am with you, through it all

Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

Blessed are your poor,
for the Kingdom shall be theirs.
Blest are you that weep and mourn,
for one day you shall laugh.

And if wicked men insult and hate you, all because of Me,
blessed, blessed are you!

Be not affraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

Is It Just In The South Or Do Candidates In Other Regions Use Church Hymns In Their Ads?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

If not, what theme do they use? I swear, every local politician around here has either Amazing Grace or The Old Rugged Cross piping through their ads. Considering they’re all liars, it just adds to my image of them as hypocrites.

Presbyterian And Non Denominational Church/ceremony?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

My fiance and I are both Christian, but he is Presbyterian and I am Non Denominational. When it comes to the ceremony, he want’s it to be in a Presbyterian church with one of their Pastors. I’m not at all familiar with how they do things.
I used to go to a very modern, contemporary church and am more comfortable with that style than the old pew, hymn, organ style of church.
Honestly, I would rather be married outside. No church service at all!
Can anyone explain the differences to me and possibly offer a solution?

Does Anyone Know The Name Of A Hymn That Goes “put Your Faith In Things Eternal, Hold On To God’s….?

…never changing hand? I think this is an old Pentecostal hymn. It’s sung in black churches a lot, I think. Any help would be much appreciated.

I Hate Church But I Have To Go. What Should I Do?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

So basically my mom and my grandma attend this little Lutheran church in my town. It’s super traditional and super BORING. I used to consider myself a Christian but recently I’ve been pulling away from it. I don’t /want/ to pull away from this religion but I’m having trouble figuring certain aspects of it out…
In any case, I also go to a Baptist school and attend Chapel every thursday. I don’t mind these chapel services! For one, I’m with my friends. The other thing is that I can really relate to what the speaker is saying. This is one thing that I don’t get out of the church services at my Lutheran Church. Another thing is that I enjoy singing the songs much more so than the old hymns at the Lutheran church. Everything is aimed towards my age group.
These are some of the many reasons that I don’t enjoy the Lutheran church I’m forced to attend and some of the many reasons I enjoy the Chapel services at my school! I just feel that the sermons at the Lutheran church aren’t aimed towards teens and I therefore get absolutely nothing out of it.
I have explained all of this to my Mother and she says she understands but she still wants me to go to Church with her =.=. She usually tries to make me feel guilty by saying that she wants to “share this experience with me”. I also understand her point of view and it does make me feel bad that I don’t want to go. However I cannot escape the torture that my traditional Lutheran church provides. I understand that many of you will say things along the lines of “You should obey your Mother” or “Suck it up” but that is so incredibly hard to do when Church is such extreme torture. (It’s hot, sticky, sweaty, boring and the chairs are uncomfortable on top of everything else)
What do I do?

Why Does It Seem Like You *either* Have To Go To A Church That Sings Hymns And Is Spiritually …?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

kind of dry or a church that clearly has LIFE in it but only sings repetitive praise choruses?
I’m not against the praise choruses — if people like them, great. But for me I have a *deep* love of old hymns — it actually makes me feel *less* worshipful to sing praise choruses than to sing old hymns that are packed full of God’s truth.
Do I just need to suck it up and go to a church with music that I hate? Or go to a church where I’m totally excited to be praising God by singing hymns but everyone else seems half dead?
Anyone know what I’m talking about? I’m not trying to criticize anyone — truly. But I feel like I have to sacrifice part of myself to go to either ‘kind’ of church!

Church Organist Too Old?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

I am a college age student, and member of a church choir. The people in our choir all know how to sing parts, however, our organist is 93 years old, and has long surpassed her retirement time. It seems none of the younger adults and students want to sing in our choir, because of our director/organist, and our music program is slowly, but surely declining. What can I do to encourage the church elders to go to her and ask her to retire. Is it wrong to do that???? I am an organist myself, and she is so greedy with her position, that she never even lets me play for an occasional hymn. However, our congregation has the financial means to hire a professional organist, and only 2 years ago bought a brand new very nice digital/electric organ, and there is so much that it can do. Is it wrong for us to want this??? many of the other choir members/congregants feel the same way??? Has anyone else experienced a similar situation???

You Know That Old Hymn “send The Light?” What The Heck Is A “macedonian Call”?

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

These are the words:
There’s a call comes ringing over the restless wave,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
There are souls to rescue there are souls to save,
Send the light! Send the light!
Send the light, the blessèd Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore to shore!
Send the light, the blessèd Gospel light;
Let it shine forevermore!
We have heard the Macedonian call today,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a golden offering at the cross we lay,
Send the light! Send the light!
I first heard it when I played the organ at a protestant church. We never sang it in the Church I went to.
That one phrase always baffled me: what is “the Macedonian call”?
Any ideas?
Serious and smart-alecky answers always welcome….

Filed in The Category - Old Church Hymns

Please help! I’d like to use it in a church service and can’t find it anywhere! Many thanks if you find it for me! Part of it goes something like:
“For me was Thy suffering and anguish,
that I might for ever go free;
a thousand, a thousand thanksgivings,
I bring, my Lord Jesus, to Thee.”

What’s The Name Of A Christmas Song With Some Spanish Lyrics?

Filed in The Category - Christmas Hymn Lyrics

The last time I heard it was in the Orlando Disneyland MGM Park last Christmas and I liked it a lot. I think it’s quite popular and the Spanish lyrics possibly mean “merry Christmas”. Can anyone give me some possible names of the song? I really appreciate! Thanks.
