Kind of ironic, considering most politicians don't exactly follow the teachings of the bible, especially during campaigns!

Interesting, I am guessing religion sells there.
In my area the only background tunes I hear piped through are sea chanteys and whaling ballads, It's quite common here, has anyone else notice that in their area?

It may be more of a southern thing. Here in the North East people don't usually associate religion to much with politics because there are a lot of different religions. I have never seen a person try to get elected on anything religious.

We always have this guy who sings country and Elvis at our local gatherings. Or another guy plays classical piano, and does a Bill Clinton imitation that's pretty funny. I haven't paid attention to local ads on tv, so I don't know what they're doing. But if you hate the South, head north.

Obviously something you need to negotiate.
My husband is southern baptist (although I'm stumped about that as he's been divorced several times, but I digress) and I'm pagan. We were married by ...yes, you guessed it... a retired Catholic priest.
It all depends on how negotiable the pastor is (keeping in mind that his higher ups may be dictating what is allowed). The Catholic priest in our situation was a family friend of many decades. Because he was retired, he is not under the same restraints an active priest is, thus the wedding didn't have to be in a church and it could be non-denominational. His only requirement was to include some christian stuff in it and I said, fine. Wasn't a big deal to me, but was to my hubby. My suggestion is to make an appointment with the pastor and discuss with him what ideas you have and how they gel with what is allowed by this pastor. You always have the option to go elsewhere and have either a non-denominational minister or a completely non-religious person perform the ceremony.

Congrats!
Yes, you can marry outdoors with a non-denominational officiant or with your husband's Presbyterian pastor.
You can call a few venues and find out who are their suggested non denominational officiants. From there you can call and speak to different ones to find out how they would conduct the ceremony for you.
You could also meet with his Presbyterian pastor and ask him if he could do a ceremony outdoors for you. This shouldn't be a problem. Protestant ministers do wedding ceremonies outdoors all the time. You and your fiance could meet with him and find out how the the ceremony would be conducted. Tell him if there's anything you would like to add. Usually Protestant wedding ceremonies are very simple...a reading from the Bible, vows, exchange of rings, pronouncement of marrieage. This should be in accordance with your non denominational beliefs. It isn't an actual "church service" and should only take about a half hour or less.

"Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand"
Time is filled with swift transition
Naught of earth unmoved can stand
Build you hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Build you hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Trust in Him who will not leave you
What so ever years may bring
If by earthly friends forsaken
Still, more closely to Him cling
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Build you hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Covet not this world’s vain riches
That so rapidly decay
Seek to gain the heavenly treasures
They will never pass away
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Build you hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
When your journey is completed
When the valley you pass thru
Fair and bright the home in glory
Your enraptured soul will view
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Build you hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand

I’m not at all religious so I’ll ignore the fact that you’re talking about church lol. Every parent dose this. They all go through this lets guilt trip my children into doing everything I want them to do phase. Honestly this may hurt your feelings and hers a little bit but you need to do what you need to do. Tell her enough is enough and stay home or go someplace else. Don’t be so mean but still make sure she gets the point she will get over it they all do.

This is the normal process of becoming atheistic/agnostic (or at least apathetic). It's good you're questioning your beliefs and you should read some atheist books in order to understand both sides and make a judgement for yourself. Becoming atheist/agnostic won't happen overnight. Often will take at least a year. Just remember, use science and logic when making your decision about whether u believe or not.

I was expecting a whining, annoying little brat who wanted to sleep in instead of go to church. Your question is very refreshing.
I can see your mom's position. She wants to share with you, and being Lutheran myself, I understand that some people don't like the music, or the way the services go. Especially older churches with older congregations.
Perhaps you can speak to the pastor and see what is going on for young people like yourself. See if they have other services (some will have a contemporary service at a later time than the traditional service, or a youth program that is held in a different part of the church) that may be more your style. It doesn't sound like the problem is a belief thing, but a boredom thing. And the church needs to work to not lose good young people like yourself. You may be able to work with the pastor to get something started that will be more enjoyable for you, and for others your age.
Once you have friends in the church, it can help you with enjoying the services more.

We have both in my church. We have the band that plays the "jump up and down" contemporary songs, but sometimes we sing the older hymns when the feeling strikes, too, acapella at first until someone gets to the piano! lol
No offense meant, I know what you mean by the music moving you, but go for the church where you're getting the most out of the actual message. You could always buy some hymn CD's to listen to at home or on your way to church to "get you in the mood." :)

It is OK to change church. I did not like to go to the church with hymns, I felt like I was in funeral and I NEER had a personal realtionship with God, until I found it in my non-denominational church where we also hear conemporary worship music. Now I can bare to is it churches with hymns, but my regular thing is contemporary music playing church.
We are just talking about the worship styles here on one true God, Jesus Christ.

My church tries the whole "blended worship" thing also, and as someone who really likes both kinds of music, I'd love it if we could do it right. On services when we happen to have more of one kind then the other, certain people just don't come (and vice versa). It's a little ridiculous, and when we try to actually talk about it, the "stalwarts" on both sides don't budge an inch -- they both think it's "wrong" to even go blended. And the church is too small to be able to absorb the loss (yes, sadly, of $$$) if we lose either set of "stalwarts". So guess what, we just continue on not talking about it and missing certain people on certain Sundays.
Now, where are you going to go? I'll assume for your sake that the message is the same in both cases, and music itself is the only deciding factor. I would go to the place that brings YOU personally closer to God, and I'm not talking about an "experience" necessarily. According to one of your earlier questions, doctrine is important to you. If the doctrine is the same, by all means go to the place where you're totally excited to be praising God.
Another factor would be what you can offer to either place. Is there a place where your talents are needed to serve in either church? Do you fill a need in any place? Not to get all "puffed up" or anything, but you have a specific set of talents that God uses, and in such a case, your decision may NOT rest on how you feel about the music.
I know you're gonna pray about it. God bless!
Have a great night!

In my experience, this seemed to be true in Pentecostal and Baptist churches. But I've found that in Lutheran churches, if anything, the opposite seems to be true.
