The church I used to attend did. The one I attend now sing mostly modern worship songs and occasionally honor the old, traditional hymns. My family and I love the traditional hymns. My favorite is “How Great Thou Art.” I requested it to be sung at my baptism. The words always brought tears to my eyes. My husband likes “Abide With Me.”
You are right, the words themselves are like sermons that make us love and appreciate our Lord more. It is true. I get more out of the old hymns than the contemporary songs although there are some that I like especially those which are based on the psalms. I like the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir because their songs exalt God and remind me of His goodness.
Any song that glorifies and honors God and encourages us in our spiritual walk is a song worth listening to.

People varies in what they like or do not like.
The contemporary Ones were created as a way to call those who are bored with the Old Tradition or have a hard time connecting to the old hymns but can easily find joy in singing in their generation may also serve as traditional maybe 50 years later.
I much prefer traditional hymnody to what has come to be called “contemporary Christian,” which I find bland, trite, and unsatisfactory. However, How Great Thou Art is not one of my favorites, and since it was introduced in the mid-20th century, cannot really be called “old” or “traditional.”
we sing He’s Got the whole world in His hands,Swing low sweet chariot, amazing Grace,How great thou art, victory in Jesus and the old rugged cross just to name a few i think they would be called traditional but we do sing a couple of newer ones also we just enjoy serving and praising the Lord may God bless and protect you
Yes we do.
We do have a few ( very few ) contemporary.
But we just had a young couple come into church and they want all contemporary. We are holding out since my husband is song leader.
I am Catholic, many of our hymns date back to the Middle Ages or even earlier. Some of them, like the Kyrie or Gloria are in their origional Greek or Latin.
the church I attend primarily sings hymns from the 1700s through the 1900s
by primarily I mean almost exclusively
Nope, the church I attend worships with newer stuff… (David Crowder, Kutless, Jeremy Camp type stuff)
We do some old hymns
A lot of them have very good theology, so they are honoring to the Lord
We also do modern praise and worship as well. A nice mix
No I go to a church that honors God, who worships with both hymns and new songs.
Yes. I don’t really mind the thous and the shalls.
Old timey like this one?
CHORUS:
Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
And that’s good enough for me
Let us pray with Aphrodite
Let us pray with Aphrodite
She wears that see-through nightie
And that’s good enough for me
CHORUS
We will pray with Zarathustra
We will Pray just like we use ta
I’m a Zarathustra booster
And that’s good enough for me
We do all contemporary music because that is what everyone likes.
