> While watching a little TV on Sunday instead of going to
> church, I
> watched a church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior
> pastors who had
> been retired many years.
>
> He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the church even
> bothered to ask
> the old gentleman to preach at that age.
>
> After a warm welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as
> the applause
> quieted down, he rose from his high back chair and walked
> slowly, with
> great effort and a sliding gate to the podium. Without a
> note or written
> paper of any kind he placed both hands on the pulpit to
> steady himself
> and then quietly and slowly he began to speak….
>
> “When I was asked to come here today and talk to you,
> your pastor asked
> me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in
> my 50-odd
>
> “Jesus loves me this I know.
> For the Bible tells me so.
> Little ones to Him belong,
> we are weak but He is strong…..
> Yes, Jesus loves me…
> The Bible tells me so..”
>
> When he finished, the church was quiet. You actually could
> hear his foot
> I will ever
> Me’ (for the children
>
> “Senior version of Jesus Loves Me”
>
> Here is a new version just for us who have white hair or no
> hair at all.
> For us over middle age (or even those almost there) and all
> you others,
> check out this newest version of Jesus Loves Me.
>
> JESUS LOVES ME
>
> Jesus loves me, this I know,
> Though my hair is white as snow
> Though my sight is growing dim,
> Still He bids me trust in Him.
> (CHORUS)YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
> YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
> YES, JESUS LOVES ME,
> FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.
>
> Though my steps are oh, so slow,
> With my hand in His I’ll go
> On through life, let come what may,
> He’ll be there to lead the way.
> (CHORUS)
>
> When the nights are dark and long,
> In my heart He puts a song..
> Telling me in words so clear,
> “Have no fear, for I am near.”
> (CHORUS)
>
> When my work on earth is done,
> And life’s victories have been won.
> He will take me home above,
> Then I’ll understand His love.(CHORUS)
>
> I love Jesus, does He know?
> Have I ever told Him so?
> Jesus loves to hear me say,
> That I love Him every day.
> (CHORUS)
> If you think this is neat, please pass it on to your

First off, I love the idea of God. Always have, always will. I believe God is all-knowing as well as “all-loving.”

But I don’t care for the way Christianity is practiced in my community. I do not enjoy being surrounded by elderly, slow-moving people that sing the same 200+ year old hymns at the traditional service, nor do I like standing in front of a happy-go-lucky praise band, clapping my hands and reading off an overhead projector in the contemporary service.

I do not enjoy Sunday school classes. I rarely learn anything. I feel like faith is something that should constantly be evolving, and changing, and growing, and I’m not getting that. What can I possibly do (as a young adult) to profess and build upon my faith in a way that would be entirely self-engaging?
No I don’t need to study I have enough frickin school work.

And to the ignoramus, I’m fairly confident not all communities are run the same as mine…

What exactly is the interpretation of this hymn?

Sing, my tongue, the Savior’s glory,
of His flesh the mystery sing;
of the Blood, all price exceeding,
shed by our immortal King,
destined, for the world’s redemption,
from a noble womb to spring.

Of a pure and spotless Virgin
born for us on earth below,
He, as Man, with man conversing,
stayed, the seeds of truth to sow;
then He closed in solemn order
wondrously His life of woe.

On the night of that Last Supper,
seated with His chosen band,
He the Pascal victim eating,
first fulfills the Law’s command;
then as Food to His Apostles
gives Himself with His own hand.

Word-made-Flesh, the bread of nature
by His word to Flesh He turns;
wine into His Blood He changes;
what though sense no change discerns?
Only be the heart in earnest,
faith her lesson quickly learns.
Down in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail;
Lo! o’er ancient forms departing,
newer rites of grace prevail;
faith for all defects supplying,
where the feeble senses fail.

To the everlasting Father,
and the Son who reigns on high,
with the Holy Ghost proceeding
forth from Each eternally,
be salvation, honor, blessing,
might and endless majesty.

Amen. Alleluia.

Just thought a few people might like to read how it was like in Louisiana a few years back. Recollections of Cheniere Lake
by Tom Bearden

http://www.Cheniere.org/Cheniere.htm

When I was a kid, there were three lakes there: (1) Puckett Lake, the main one which everyone knew, (2) Middle Lake, which a few knew (it was hard to get to), and then there was (3) Little Lake, which few persons knew about and which was the devil and all to get to. That was where the gators denned and where there was a beaver dam. There were bear, some panthers, and even some wolves in the woods back then. And plenty of bobcat.

One of the real experiences of my life at 12 was to be stalked through the woods for about two miles by a panther, trying to spook me into bolting so he could jump me from the rear. In such cases, a panther puts his muzzle down between his paws, and coughs. In the little bushes, that sound just seems to come from everywhere, so you cannot tell the direction of the panther, but if you’ve ever heard it, there is absolutely no mistaking the sound. That way he spooks his game into fleeing, and then can leap on it from the rear. I knew instantly what it was, and that I was in serious trouble if I panicked. I knew also that I must not leave my back exposed very long at all. I had a very stout club and a hunting knife, and that was all. So I would walk about 10 steps, then turn all around beating the bushes with the club. It was night, and so that made it more tricky. Anyway, I eased on along, doing my spinaround and beating routine about every 10 steps, until I finally came out into the clearing (a big cow pasture) with our house way on the other side. My grandmother has placed a kerosene lamp in the back window, so I could see it when I came out of the woods. After I got about 75 yards out in the clearing, I sorta “turned it on” then until I ran up the back steps and into the house. I was fortunate because apparently the panther was not too hungry, just curious and considering whether to jump me or not. Had he been really hungry, that story would have had quite a different ending. I would have used my knife and club, of course, but the odds are overwhelming that the panther would have won easily.

When one met a bear in the woods, one learned very early to just get out of the trail slowly and quietly, and not disturb him. Likely the bear will then see you are no threat, and continue on. However, bears are like humans: sometimes they get up on the wrong side of bed and in a real fit of temper. When you meet one of those and he’s in a bad mood, you had better have your gun with you, because he is just spoiling to jump something, and it’s easy for you to get elected. I was fortunate and never had to shoot one, but I did have encounters with several including one of those spoiling for a fight. That one I was fortunate enough to just ease on aside and keep easing out of his way far enough that he lost interest as I continued to slowly depart.

Stupidest thing I ever did was at a Church opening of the Cheniere Church’s new camp on Puckett Lake. That night, after eating and singing hymns and being around the fires and the cook racks, some of the other boys and I paddled several row boats out into the middle of Puckett Lake and went skinny dipping, tying the boats together in a circle and having a fine old time diving in and out in the neat moonlight. Then I brushed a log under the water, as did my friend Roland Carter. Then I brushed another log under the water. Roland and I surfaced, and we exclaimed together: “Why are there so many logs floating in this water?” The realization hit us that there were no logs here. So we took a flashlight from one of the boats, and shined it outward — and we were ringed by about 20 pairs of eyes hanging low on the water. With all the splashing and yelling etc., we had attracted a large gathering of big alligators, who were preparing to join in the fun. Of course we decided their crashing the party would not be any fun at all, rather instantly. So everybody leaped into the boats, and we all paddled furiously out of there, with the gators following us all the way through the boat run under the trees and all the way to the bank. Now that moonlight swimming escapade was really Stupid with a capital S!

A gator also can gallop for a short distance, which back then few people knew or believed. I had one come after me, so experienced “gator galloping” first hand, on the wrong end of the stick (fortunately they never learned to climb trees). But folks used to think one had taken leave of one’s senses if one spoke of a gator galloping. Then of course with TV and nature programs, eventually the animal specials showed gators and crocs galloping for a little distance. So it was nice not to be crazy after all about gator galloping.

The gators also learned to hunt the wild pigs that roamed the deep swamps. A big gator would li
Sorry ! I ran out of room -too many characters.

This is a second part to a question I asked earlier.

http://www.reynoldsburgfwbc.org/

It’s a baptist church, and the only one that’s available to me being a 16 year old girl without a license (copy and paste the link into your top search bar or click ‘answer’ like you’re going to answer me and it’ll be blue and work).

Here is the earlier question -
There is this church walking distance from where I live, I mean it’s literally right across the street from me… only 5 minutes or less, I would like to start going every Sunday by myself, I’m 16.

My dad who I only live with doesn’t want to go to church even though he was raised catholic, in catholic schools church every Sunday, and my sister doesn’t believe in God or the bible.

I don’t really have a religion, right now I don’t really believe in anything but learning about God I think is something I’d really like to do, but my question is I don’t have a lot of money so I have nothing nice or ‘churchy’ to wear, will I still be accepted?

Could I tell them before that I’ll just be sitting in the corner or the back row and really won’t be participating just there to listen then maybe I’ll start singing hymns and everything? I as-well have no money to put in collections. : |

I’m not sure what kind or church it is, I have social anxiety… would it be weird for me to go in and talk to the pasture or preacher ahead of time and ask a few questions and tell him my reason for coming, and it’s a small church nothing big.

I’m really nervous about being clueless and don’t want to be shunned for living in a trailer park when people see me walking back with not very nice clothes on, and not giving any money.

I’m not sure what kind or church it is, I have social anxiety… would it be weird or me to go in and talk to the pasture or preacher ahead of time and ask a few questions and tell him my reason for coming, and it’s a small church nothing big.

I’m really nervous about being clueless and don’t want to be shunned for living in a trailer park when people see me walking back with not very nice clothes on, and not giving any money.
The only thing Ihave to wear is sweatpants, UGG boots, a jacket and tank-top (i’ll keep my jacekt on).
I found out it was a baptist church?

As far as I know it still is. As I grew up in UK we had no choice, saying you were atheist or agnostic did not excuse you from lessons, only muslim, sikh, hindu could be excused.
In one way it can be a good thing to learn about numerous faiths but I clearly remember it being biased towards christianity and maybe brief lessons about Islam and sikh.
If it is compulsory why are there favoritism’s towards other faiths being excluded or can anyone be excused now?
Should it be not part of education at all and let people find out however they want later on in life?
Are schools still singing christian hymns and prayers in morning assemblies?

Laughter is a Divine gift (amen)

A preacher was completing a temperance sermon: with great expression he said, “If I had all the beer in the world, I’d take it and throw it into the river.” With even greater emphasis he said, “And if I had all the wine in the world, I’d take it and throw it into the river.”

And then finally, he said, “And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I’d take it and throw it into the river.”

He sat down. The song leader then stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, “For our closing song, let us sing Hymn # 365: “Shall We Gather at the River.”

The Duggar children are so well-behaved, so mature and well-adjusted, and not distracted by worldly things such as pop music, vanity, drugs, alcohol, sex…

But I grew up being immersed in pop music, vanity, I learned all the wrong & unhealthy things about sexuality. Now my eyes are opened and I want so much better for my children. I’d love to home school them and raise them to know the good in the world and do good in the world, rather than being distracted by damaging worldly values. My children are 6 and 3 years old, and I don’t plan on having anymore, I just want to fix the ones I’ve already got. But my husband is not on board with this at all. He sees nothing wrong with sexual immorality, pop culture, etc, and he’s already introduced our kids to it, and they prefer pop culture to religion. But I know a religious life would be so much healthier. We could serve foreign missions as a family, sing hymns together, etc. This is my vision. What do I do?

Instead of the practice of talking communion with bread and wine they have a monthly potluck. Is this what Jesus had intended? It seems to me that Jesus instituted this practice to be done as he done it without any variation. They also don’t have a church building. There is only about twenty people who meet in a rented out room in a Chinese restaurant. In this room is a pool table and a whole bunch of board games. They don’t sing hymns, but rather they sing modern day Christian music. Some of their ideas and ways of doing things are completely different than what I think Christianity consists of. The worst thing is that they claim that there methods are correct and everyone else in mainstream C is misguided. I know this because I went with my friend to their game night and I learned a little about their church. I just want to point out that I’m not saying they are wrong as I’m just saying that what they do is unfamiliar to me.
@ Lotta

No they don’t drink his blood or eat his body. It’s just a potluck.
@ Respect for the fist

You don’t have to be condenscending after all it’s just a serious question meant for a serious answer. If you don’t know how to answer then don’t answer at all.
@ Saer

Yeah. That’s what I think. Why else would Jesus do it?

I became involved in a close nit church about a year ago. They are a very traditional church and I have learned so much. I have been blessed to be a member of the ministry there. My issue is that we are only allowed to sing hymns. We can only play certain instruments, others are not “acceptable” to God. I started feeling the urge to move when the word was not what it use to be. The head of the church travels all over the world. He comes occasionally. I feel that they try to tell you what to do and how to do it instead of give the word and allow it to help you in life. I always participate in church events, help with food etc. I have tried to talk to the head of our church about maybe singing some praises and speaking about some things more related to the New Testament as they base a lot of things off the Old Testament, but she always says the head says no those things are of the World, God does not recognize them. So.. I always thought different, I just maybe am a little more open minded I do not know. Anyone have advice?? I do feel I have to leave I do not agree with the strict rules that are “acceptable” to God. How do I do it without being offensive, they have done so much. Thanks

I spent a long 22 years of arguing with God. Finally it took it’s tole.

It was either the bible or the aspirin (suicide) I downed the aspirin. Long story short pain in my chest couldn’t breath ringing in my ears (which I still have) and other problems that were NOT fun at all and I would not recommend any one trying.

I ended up in the psyche ward after being admitted into an emergency room for 2 or 3 days.

To make a long story short my parents brought me the bible. I have always had this innate feeling that God was truly real so passionately I believed even though others doubted. There was just some kind of peace that went over me every time I thought about God. Whether it was the weather or whatever else God created.

For 22 years no one told me, no story I read, no preacher in church, no soul on earth except God himself through the written word!; That you can talk to God through the bible.

The hardest thing I learned is that we aren’t perfect we mess up and have to admit it to press forward.

Well long story short every page I opened was in direct intimate detail to the questions that were in my head. I would ask a question. Then I’d crack the bible open and get a direct answer. I’d think about something and crack the bible open and it was exactly what I was thinking about.

Finally I broke down and cried realizing God knew my every thought. That he see’s through all the walls we build up including physical and mental etc. We think we can hide our emotions from God but we can’t. I also encountered quite a few people in there who were two faced.

I asked God who they served and God showed me the truth every time. In the end I found out from other people that what God told me was true. I found out they were two faced and atheist at best. They didn’t come out and say it in fact they pretended they were christian but suicidal. They even tried to sing hymns but God warns us Satan can appear as an angel of light. These people were the roomates in the psychiatric unit. And the story is much much longer but rather than make you read a novel I type it short.

I sat on the window sill they had on the psycheward it was made of concrete and I burst into tears.

Whilst I was crying the wind started to get louder and louder and it’s sounds matched my exact sadness. Each thought I made the wind matched it in exact harmony the apathy and empathy of the sound was all there. The wind in fact sounded like tears I kid you not.

And just as I was crying and feeling as if God was there I opened the bible and it landed on this verse :

God sings a song of sorrow in the wind to a heavy heart

All I can tell you is it’s in the bible I could try googling the verse but no avail I will have to read the entire thing to find it some day.

I’ve also had hundreds or thousands of times I would think of a verse and it would open to that exact verse I kid you not.

It’s been about 9 months I’ve been reading the bible haven’t finished, read a good portion though if that counts. (Since February of 2009)

I’ve asked God where suicidal people end up the page landed on this exact verse my thumb was on “hell”. Same thing when I asked God about homosexuals; so I know both are not of God. It also landed on when I thought about homosexuals or suicide and asked God what he thought of it John chapter 7 “ye are the father the devil he was a murderer and liar from the beginning who aboded not in the truth” so I know they are from the pit of hell pretty much.

There were moments when I was in the psycheward and I asked God if jesus was really crucified because I had doubted even with all the telepathic answers I received through the bible I just wanted to know for sure. And God knew that direct communication was the only way to make me aware which is what happened. And still to this day when I flip a page or have a thought or question God answers it through the written word flipping exactly to what I need to see and read. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Jesus was crucified for our sins and rose again for us and wants us to believe in him so that through him God can come into our hearts and we can be saved.

I can talk to God to this day through the bible and God always answers me as it says he will never leave nor forsake you – nothing can separate you from the love of God.

I’ve made a journal about God’s anger and emotions. I have warned others about God burning the earth up as it says in Zephaniah.

And malachi speaks of God sending a curse upon the earth if we do not listen to God; Elijah was a messenger of God to have the people hearken to God which is why it says “6: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” In other words listen to God or be damned and dead.

Now how can any of you sit there and deny the reality of it – it didn’t just open to a random page when I he
hosea 8 how long will they attain their innocency?

God is very angry.

matthew 10:32

whosoever shall CONFESS God

which is exactly what I’m doing.

matthew 28 which is exactly what I’m doing.

pharisees – this chapter pops up as if to say BE CAREFUL you are not like them – the confirmation is when you read onward.

“fear not I know you seek jesus”

Luke 6:48
being a doer not a hearer only
pharisees

fear not I know ye seek jesus

opened in same order again
my mind felt possessed for a moment now because I was thinking of something idiotic and something I normally would think is stupid..

“possessed mind”

aka not in your right mind

that is the exact feeling I had and God opened to the exact page.

we all have thought – said – or done something we shouldn’t have but the big difference is we are all repenting

we are all trying to do our best and come to God.

It’s not a ticket to do evil.

because like Herod we too can be devoured of worms and eternal hellfire.

matthew 28 – confirmation that I am preaching the word of God.
12: And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

herod was consumed too because he denied God.
here’s a warning to all you unbelievers and false believers

“and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.
4: I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.”

zechariah 5:4
and do you know what God is telling me about all your judgmental commentary?

“take up thy bed and walk”

aka don’t worry about them.

and I’m not but I do feel sorrow for you.
matthew 28 – confirmation.
no I came to God – I chose to ignore him for 22 years if you know how to read then you would know that but you sound illiterate.

Notice in the story I came to God and I found out suicide isn’t the answer.

How much would you enjoy heaven, knowing that the God you’re busy singing praises to is busy torturing untold bilions, and will continue to do so for all eternity? Just consider: all those children whose parents raised them with another faith, and who never got a chance to learn about your version of the Word; your friends who had a crisis of faith and drifted away from the church; your wife or husband, who was married once before and got divorcecd before they met you — your god’s going to cast them, one and all into a lake of fire. They’ll suffer agony you can’t even conceive of, torment greater than the sum total of all the suffering of the whole human race all the way back to Adam and Eve. And even after all that, God will barely have even gotten warmed up! And all the while you’ll be singing hymns extolling his “mercy” and “compassion”….

This is my older sister’s wedding, and I’m going to sing while people are being seated and stuff. Something sweet I guess. I’m a first soprano in 2 choirs so i can handle the harder pieces, but I have no idea of what i should do. I was thinking a traditional hymn, but I’m not so sure since the groom isn’t super religious.
