Am I starting too late to become real good? I mostly want to play for my own pleasure. I can play most junior hymns now with both hands. My teacher says I am making swift progress, though. In another month, she said, we will start on Dennis DeYoung (Styx) piano pieces, but only one measure at a time.

I’ve been asked to play a piano solo in our ward. I really want to play something elaborate and difficult. Anything David Glen Hatch-esque and I’ll have it learned Saturday night before church – which defeats the whole point.

So does anyone know of any hymns or other churchy songs that I could play that are extremely elaborate and difficult? And where to buy them.

At our school, we have a talent show each year. I’ve been playing piano for 8 years now and want to do the talent show next year. But I only know classical music, music from anime, and hymns. Im not to great at picking out music. So I thought I should ask the audience! I can learn anything that level 2-3 (if your a musician I think you will understand that, if not, its music like Clair de Lune, and Moonlight Sonata) or maybe a bit beyond because I have a year to work on it. I want something fun for a talent show, but impressive. I was thinking maybe Simpson’s Theme song or something like that. Any ideas?

I have played the piano since I was nine years old, and got Grade 8 distinction by 13. I am now nearly 30. With careful practice, I can play extremely difficult pieces really well from memory. However, I’m poor at playing by ear and I am ATROCIOUS at sight-reading (i.e. I would find it difficult to sight-read slow grade 3 pieces, most hymns etc). I *really* want to get properly good at sight-reading. Is this possible, with sufficient practice of the right kind, or have I missed the boat by now? If it is possible, what is the key to it?

What I need is for someone to answer all my questions..
I JUST (just as in two nights ago) learned how to read sheet music by reading an article on the internet. So, I want to learn hoe to play some songs, but I’m not into classical music.Maybe Alicia Keys or familiar Gospel Music. Over the past two days, I’ve been trying to do the song Imagine me by Kirk Franklin. I found a page of Sheet Music from there and just noticed last night that it was only the first page. I repeat, I’m just learning how to play the piano correctly so that’s why I didn’t expect it so much. While searching the Internet, these questions came into mind
1. What are chords and who uses them?
2. Where can I find free Sheet music for my -PIANO-
3. If I were to buy a book of sheet music at a store, what would be a good one
4. Any online hymn books. The hymn books in church always have the sheet music in them

Thanks in advance, Clinea

It was sunday morning in Cleavland, Ohio. The Birds Were Chirping as the city was busy going about it’s day. One particular inhabitant of Cleavland, Ohio on this particular Sunday morning was in church. More specifically he was playing the organ. This mans name was Doug. Now Doug was an odd organ player. For one thing he was hung over from the night before but still managed to play the hymns without missing one note. An amazing feat for any normal musician perhaps but not for Doug. You see Doug was a musical prodigy. Ever since he was a boy he had the amazing gift of being able to quickly learn any musical instrument his gifted hands touched. You might think that a musical prodigy would be in some sort of distinguished career. Perhaps playing in an orchestra or at operas. But know you see Doug had quite a bit of talent but he didn’t have any sort of goals in life. That is why today instead of playing in front of an audience of sharply dressed musical aficionados he was playing in front of an audience of average ordinary people who went to church every sunday.
Another thing you might find unusual about Doug is that he does not believe in God. In fact he was the only one in that particular church who did not believe in God. It turns out it isn’t a requirement. Yes Doug was an odd organ player indeed. Of course doug didn’t have any problems with his current situation. He drank, he gambled, he watched tv and lived a pretty lonely existence. And he thought he was happy. What Doug didn’t know was that today was the day that his life would be pulled in a different direction.

I asked this. I chose one answer, there were good “things”in several— happy , positive input.. Some were sad, made me feel sad. The one I chose , among other things, said
“a fun atmosphere”. I thought I would be allowed to comment on that. I am
sure, some day I will hear about that. There is a time to get serious in church and a time to be happy, or have fun: Happy all the time, but serious at times, and have fun at times not like a continuous or continual funeral service. Not sit with a poker for a spine.
Also, I do not like to see people scapegoated, or the butt of jokes when they are hurting and have been hurt: Need healing, love, kindness, milk of human kindness.

There are things which are not laughing matters, and sensitivity is good.
I am sorry we have had so much problems with church. The only
thing people see of the Kingdom of God on this earth is in Christians;.Isn’t that the saddest thing you ever heard of, in some cases it is.

Does anyone have ideas about what people could do who go to church, or who don’t, to show the Kingdom of God to people? I do not have a lot of money to give, or any right now, and I am not selling everything I have. The Bible does not ask us to do that. Nor am I going to give myself into worse poverty.
We must love ourselves, first, before we can love others. That does not include taking abused. We don’t have to slug it out, but we do not have to take mentaL Or emotional abuse or coldness. I have tried direct co nfrontation, or talking.

I believe what I believe, and I cannot change it, try as I have.

May God bless everyone. God does not dwell in houses made by hands, and we are not to worship the created more than the creator. However, it is good
for Christians to attend church in peace and love.
On Sunday, I put on my church clothes, read the Bible, sometimes i listen to a sermon. I put on CDs and play along, not for money, and I play hymns by myself. I get really happy sometimes. A song came to me while I was doing this once, a melody. I cannot say it is the Holy Spirit’s writing, but I never heard it before. I added to it. I have actually had two come to me like that, one I heard something similiar but not the same tune.
I wrote poetry at one time. I do miss getting out. I miss what I thought
wa sChristian fellowship, when I was young, it was there at times, sometimes when I was raising my kids.I continue to be ill. It hampers looking for church, numb toes, burning hoit, cannot perspire, much abdominal and breast pain.
Sure I have ulcers, gerd, spastic colon and other. My legs and feet swell
like I don’t know what. I am doing a little better, believe it or not l Someone must be praying. I still like to get out, and keep thinking it will be better unless I am thrown into the street again. and again, and again. I don’t have much gas though, nor BO. I was soooooo happy to learn that was not the problem. LOLLOLO rofl

God bless us all.

I have a question for anyone who is a concert or professional pianist.
I really have started to love the classics after getting into the Bastien intermediate level piano books. I am wondering, considering that I can’t play by ear, is it possible for me to really ever learn to play the classics. I can play the melody of a song on the flute and piano by ear, but I can’t seem to put chords together to save my life (I can improvise hymns to some extent, though)
Have any of you learned this without being able to play by ear, or do you know anyone who has? Thanks so much.
I really want to learn to play classical music, but I don’t want to just botch them all up, and I want to know if I am wasting my time or not trying to learn. Thanks agan!

Is there a program that can read and play (in any form) sheet music, or even just the lengths of the notes, that I scan, or enter manually, into my computer? I play by ear and memory very quickly, but as a result, don’t read timing very fluently. I can write in and learn the notes easily enough, but need to be sure I learn the timing correctly, (i.e., a dotted quarter note and eighth note, vs. 2 quarter notes) and will have trouble “un”-memorizing it, if I assume and practice the timing wrong, without hearing it. These are hymns in my church, most of which I have never heard and am not yet familiar with. Thanks

JOKE TIME AGAIN
The Catholic Church’s air conditioning broke down, so they
had to hire a man to crawl around in the ducts and figure
out what was wrong.
As the man peeked down through one of the vents in the
sanctuary, he saw little old Mrs. Murphy kneeling by the
altar, apparently saying her rosary. Since the man was a
fundamental Baptist, he thought it’d be funny to try and
mess with the lady’s mind.
In his best authoritative voice, he said, “This is Jesus.
Your prayers will be answered.”
The little old lady didn’t even blink, just kept on saying
her prayers. The man decided maybe she didn’t hear him, and
tried again. “This is Jesus, the Son of God! Your prayers
will be answered!”
Again, she didn’t react at all. Mustering up a big breath
of air, the man decided to try again. “THIS IS JESUS
CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD! YOUR PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED!”
The lady looks up and says, “SHUT UP! I’M TALKING TO YOUR
MOTHER!”
Two blondes were driving through Louisiana. As they were
approaching Natchitoches, they started arguing about the
pronunciation of the town. They argued back and forth until
they stopped at a fast-food restaurant for lunch.
As they stood at the counter, one blonde asked the manager,
“Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?
Would you please pronounce where we are . very slowly?”
The manager leaned over the counter and said:
“Burrrrrrr-gerrrrrr Kiiiiiing.”
A little girl and a little boy were at day care one day. The
girl approaches the boy and says, “Hey Tommy, want to play
house?”
He says, “Sure! What do you want me to do?”
The girl replies, “I want you to communicate your feelings.”
“Communicate my feelings?” said a bewildered Tommy. “I have no
idea what that means.”
The little girl smirks and says, “Perfect. You can be the
husband then.”
Employer to applicant: “In this job we need someone who is responsible. ”
Applicant: “I’m the one you want. On my last job, every time anything went
wrong, they said I was responsible. ”
A blonde goes into aDunkin Donuts and notices there’s a “peel and win” sticker on her coffee cup.
So she peels it off and starts screaming, “I’ve won a motorhome!
I’ve won a motorhome!”
The waitress says, “That’s impossible. The biggest prize is a free Lunch.”
But the blonde keeps on screaming, “I’ve won a motorhome! I’ve won a motorhome!”
Finally, the manager comes over and says, “Ma’am, I’m sorry, but you’re mistaken. You couldn’t have possibly won a motorhome because we didn’t have that as a prize.”
The blonde says, “No, it’s not a mistake. I’ve won a motorhome!”
And she hands the ticket to the manager and HE reads…
“W I N A B A G E L”
A husband was in big trouble when he forgot his wife’s birthday.
His wife told him “Tomorrow there better be something in the driveway for
me that goes zero to 200 in 2 seconds flat”.
The next morning the wife found a small package in the driveway. She opened
it and found a brand new bathroom scale.
Funeral arrangements for the husband have been set for Saturday.
“Arizona Vacation”
On doctor’s orders, Johnny had moved to Arizona. Two weeks later, he was dead. His body was shipped back home, where the undertaker prepared it for the services.
Johnny’s brother came in to make sure everything was taken care of. “Would you like to see the body?” the undertaker asked.
“I might as well take a look at it before the others get here.” The undertaker led him into the next room and opened the top half of the casket. He stood back and proudly displayed his work.
“He looks good,” the brother said. “Those two weeks in Arizona were just the thing for him.”
“Airline Ticket”
As an airline reservation agent, I took a call from a
man who wanted to book a flight for two but wasn’t
happy with the price of $59 per ticket.
“I want the $49 fare I saw advertised,” he insisted,
saying he would accept a flight at any time. I managed
to find two seats on a 6 a.m. flight. “I’ll take it,”
he said, then worried his wife might not like the
early hour.
I warned there was a fee of $25 per person if he
changed the reservation.
“Oh, that’s no problem,” he said dismissively. “What’s
fifty bucks?”
5. Your physician says: “You’re in great shape–
9. Your colleagues say: “We’re behind you 100%–
turbulence folks– nothing to worry about.”
12. A voice on the telephone says: “Congratulations!
You’re an instant winner!”
“Fishing on Sunday”
A village pastor, known for his weakness for trout, preached
against fishing on Sunday.
The next day, one of his members presented him with a fine
string of fish and said, hesitatingly, “I guess I ought to tell
you, parson, that those trout were caught on Sunday.”
The minister hesitated, gazed appreciatively at the speckled
trout, and then said piously as he reached for his gift, “The
fish aren’t to blame for that.”
“Cross-eyed Bear”
A little boy came home with his parents from church one Sunday.
He seemed a little depressed, so his mother asked him if something
happened in Sunday School class that he would like to talk about.
He told his mother, “Well, we were singing songs and the teacher
made us sing about a poor bear named Gladly that needed glasses and I
can’t stop thinking about him. She said he was cross-eyed and I feel
bad for him.
The mother couldn’t understand why the teacher would teach such
a song in Sunday school, so she decided to call her. To the woman’s
amazement, the teacher said she only taught hymns that morning.
Then the teacher began laughing out loud and said to the mother,
“I know what Jeffrey’s talking about! We learned the hymn ‘Gladly The Cross I’d Bear!’”
“Benefits of Tithing”
Two men off for a sailing trip around the world are shipwrecked. The
minute they got on to the island one of them started screaming and
yelling, “We’re going to die! We’re going to die! There’s no food! No
water! We’re going to die!”
The second man comfortably propped himself up against a palm tree and
acted so calmly it drove the first man crazy. “Don’t you understand?! ?
We’re going to die!!”
The second man replied, “You don’t understand, I make $100,000 a week.”
The first man looked at him quite dumbfounded and asked, “What
difference does that make?!? We’re on an island with no food and no
water! We’re going to DIE!!!”
The second man answered with a confident smile, “No, you just don’t get
it. I make $100,000 a week and I tithe ten percent on that $100,000 a
week. Our church is getting ready to start a building program. My
pastor and the finance committee will find me”

Me and my friend just got asked to play a small concert after a football game. We need 30 min. worth of acoustic Christian music. No hymns or super soft stuff. I don’t even know where to start. He will be playing the acoustic guitar and I will play the ukulele. It will be a cool sound but we don’t know what songs to do. We are both pretty capable musicians and we could really use some help picking out songs. We are looking at some Charlie Hall, David Crowder, Jeremy Camp, Hillsong, but have no idea what songs to do. I have access to just about any music and any song, I just don’t know which ones! Somebody please help us if we’re getting paid $400 for this so we want to do it good! Thanks to all! – Kevin and Nick

They always say how GOD is great and how Jesus is perfect. Then they go on and on about how much Humans suck. They love mentioning how the bible says; Human righteousness is like filthy rags, Noone is righteous, and how All have sinned and come short of the glory of god. In so many words, they basically say that everyone is as low as dirt. How we’re all stupud (far too stupid to understand GOD), devil worshipping sinners that deserve to die and burn for the rest of Eternity.
This ex slave trader wrote the hymn “Amazing Grace”, in which he refers to himself as a wretch. Sure I can see that. A slave trader, yeah, okay. I learned this from a preacher that made snide remarks about a man that didn’t want that hymn played at his funeral because of the verse “That saved a wretch like me”. That Preacher sucked.
I don’t think that a person should lower himself to the level of slime in order to do right by GOD. It isn’t healthy. I may not be perfect, but I’m no friggin wretch.

I am about to enter college, and I would like to know if I should pursue music classes there, if I am likely to be allowed to take them, and what would be required of me to enter them—i.e. do all colleges require auditions, and what level (or songs) would I need to be able to play in order to enter—or if it would be a wiser decision to attempt to find a professional teacher, and if so, where to find such a teacher at a (very) reasonable price. I am unlikely to be able to follow a musical career, but I would like to be able to play at a professional level.
I have played the piano for about eleven years now without the aid of a teacher. I first learned to play by reading books from the library when I was about eight. Since then, I have continued to teach myself to play by note—I cannot play by ear, although I can certainly pick out a basic tune—and have basically no foundation in chords, or what I believe to be called musical theory. I basically know the letters for each key, common piano terminology—i.e. piano or P means soft—and what all the sharps and flats mean up to six flats and five sharps.
I play well enough to perform in a church—I serve as a fill-in pianist and I play every Sunday morning while the congregation is leaving—and can play songs up to five flats or sharps with about the same level of ease as no flats or sharps. My main problems are with timing; especially if I cannot hear the piece performed or sung beforehand; velocity, I can achieve a good deal of speed in my right hand with practice, but am not as good with my left hand, making it very difficult to learn fast pieces that require the left hand to perform at the same level as the right, and the pedals; I never learned when or how to depress or to release the pedal, I simply started holding the right pedal down during the whole piece from the time I first learned to play.
I can play pieces in difficulty ranging from hymns—there are none that I know of that I cannot play—to most operatic transcriptions, including the full, five sharp version of La donna e mobile, and pieces of the full transcriptions of Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, and Tosca. I can play songs with timing such as that in O Sole Mio and Stride la vampa—both of which I play very well—with ease, as long as I can hear them performed before I am asked to play. I have not practiced playing songs from memory, so if I were to audition, that may pose a problem.

I want to learn to play the piano from home. I have been looking at buying a Yamaha EZ150, a 61 key keyboard with lighted keys to teach you how to play. I want to play gospel, praise music & hymns. Will this be a good learning tool or do you need 88 keys to play the these types of songs? I really want to get a keyboard with weighted keys for the feel of a piano, but I don’t believe it’s abailable with a lighted, teaching keyboard like the Yamaha I found. For what I want to do, will 61 keys matter and could I use it down the road when I really learn how to play? Thanks!!!
