We had a Communion service at school today. I’m not Christian though, I’m Hindu…but I had to go anyway. So I went…
But, there was this hymn which they sang which had in the lyrics: “They will know we are Christians by our love, by our love, yes they’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
I interpret this as meaning that people of all other faiths don’t have love, so when “they” see a person who has this love, then they will know he/she is Christian. But if “they” don’t see this love, then “they” will know he/she is not Christian.
So basically, they are telling me that I don’t have love for others in my religion, which is not at all correct. I am quite offended by this, as is my close friend (who is Jewish).
If you are not Christian, would you be offended by this?
If you are Christian, would you be offended by this were you not Christian?
My intention is not to offend anyone, just asking.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

What is so secret about mormon underwear?
Submitted by: Sam, Denver, CO
Sam, many people confuse the words “secret” and “sacred”. While something that is secret is hidden from the world, something that is sacred means that is special or has some religious significance. Mormon garments (underwear) aren’t secret. You can ask any mormon missionary or member of the LDS church about them. They are, however, sacred. They remind members of the church that they have chosen to be obedient to the commandments of the Lord.
What other religions have special clothing?
Submitted by: anonymous
There are many other religions, other than mormonism, that have religious clothing. Perhaps the most well-known example is the yarmulke, which is worn at special times by Jewish men or at all times by devout orthodox Jews. Priests in the Catholic church wear special collars to show their role. Catholic nuns may also wear special clothing that signifies the religious order to which they belong. In all cases the special clothing reflects the religious conviction of the wearer.
Where do mormon garments come from?
Submitted by: Karen, Boston, MA
Garments are made at LDS church clothing centers. They are then made available to members of the mormon church through distribution centers. Church distribution centers sell scriptures, pictures of Jesus Christ, videos about the gospel, hymn books, and many other church supplies, as well as garments. Some websites claim to sell garments as well, but unless they are official church sites, it’s usually a hoax.
When do mormon start wearing garments?
Submitted by: Craig, Provo, UT
Members of the mormon (LDS) church begin wearing garments after they have attended a special service in the temple. During this service, members of the church promise to live a righteous life. The garment reminds them of the promise they have made even when they are not in the temple.

For some people, the modern Zionist state of Israel is just the latest incarnation of the holy kingdoms of David and Solomon.
I couldn’t see it in more different terms: Not only was the modern state founded as a secular, godless nation by atheists and marxists alike, it goes against the central rabbinic teaching that the Jews are only to return en masse when the Messiah comes and establishes an era of peace – when the lion lies down next to the sheep ( Isaiah). This is because the last time a fanatical Jewish nationalist tried to create an Israeli state by force of arms, ie. the revolt of Simon bar Kokhba, it was eventually crushed by the Romans and thousands slaughtered.
Moreover, in both Judaism and Christianity, the name “Israel” has a spiritual meaning, as many a psalm or hymn attests, and is not some sort of genealogical or ethnic definition.
Jesus said “he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.”: this was true of bar Kohkba, it seems also true that “he who lives by the uzi shall die likewise.”

My brother and I recently put our mother to rest after she had a long sickness.
Part of the family is Jewish, we are Christian.
My mother wanted her favorite hymn “At Calvary” sung at the service.
The hymn repeats “At Calvary” quite a few times, referring to the place Christ was crucified.
I was shocked to hear the grumblings of several members of the Jewish attendance saying …. “such a song to pick out for a mixed crowd” etc.
Should I mention this to the few who grumbled in the middle of this hymn or chalk it up to ignorance?

This is a silly question, but I’d like to know because I am organizing all my praise and worship music in a 3-ring binder for my guitar music collection.
I have made these “sub-genres” but if there are actual names for these or suggestions (opinions welcome), I’d like to hear them.
My catgegories:
Popular (I guess “contemporary” would be a better term)
-songs like “how great is our God” and “breathe” etc…
Classic (I guess these are old school woship songs..”maranatha” style? – songs like “create in me a clean heart” and “Hosanna”, etc…
Gospel & Hymns (self explanitory) – songs like “Sanctuary” and “Amazing Grace” – songs with that southern gospel sound to them, and songs that are old Hymns.
Jewish sounding – songs like “As David did,” He is Jehovah” and “how I praise you”…they have that Jewish rhythm and the minor guitar chords!
If anyone can make suggestions for me to easily organize or “CATEGORIZE” my worship music collection, that would be greatly appreciated!

how?
Genesis 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them and whatsoever Adam called every living creature that was the name thereof
And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not. (30) And He taught Adam all the names, then showed them to the angels, saying: Inform Me of the names of these, if ye are truthful. (31) They said: Be glorified! We have no knowledge saving that which Thou hast taught us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower, the Wise. (32) He said: O Adam! Inform them of their names, and when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not tell you that I know the secret of the heavens and the earth? And I know that which ye disclose and which ye hide. (33) http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/

I’m also very interested in Semitic languages such as Arabic and Hebrew.
