So who is this incredible man?

He never wrote a book, never held office, never owned a house. He even had to borrow a boat, a coin and a donkey. He never travelled more than 200 miles from His birthplace. Jesus painted no pictures, yet there are thousands of artists who received their inspiration from Him. Jesus wrote no poetry and yet scores of the world’s greatest poems were inspired by Him. Jesus composed no music; yet there are more songs, hymns and symphonies written about Him than any other person in history, along with thousands of books and other writings about Him. All the recorded words Jesus spoke could be contained in a very small pocket book.

No one has ever had such an effect on the life of men as the Lord Jesus Christ. Without doubt, He is the most famous person who has ever lived
…some say He was a great teacher
…some say He was a prophet
…some say He was a healer
…some say He was just a good man
…some say He was the Son of God!

SO, who do you say He is?

Are there any born – again believers in Jesus Christ out there whose Christian lives transcend the usual denominational stereotypes?

For example, I lean very heavily toward “Reformed” theology in respect of matters of predestination & salvation. I also strongly disagree with women in Christian leadership roles such as pastor and elder. I like to sing theologically – rich old hymns such as “Rock of Ages”, and so on. I’ve read books by D.M. Lloyd – Jones, etc, etc.

In addition – although I would not label myself a “Charismatic” – I am open to the supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit. I believe that the gift of prophecy & healing is for NOW. I like to raise my hands in worship, sometimes while singing (the more sound) modern songs & choruses. I got the gift of tongues several years back, and so on.

How about you, Christian? Care to help blow away denominational stereotypes today?

The Holy – Spirit inspired New Testament is CRYSTAL clear – women are NOT called by God to the office of pastor / elder. Please see 1 Timothy 2:12.

Women can preach to the UNSAVED in verbal Christian witness, but they CANNOT be “leaders” over a Christian assembly.

With all due respect, sister, would the Holy Spirit say one thing to (and through) the apostle Paul and something completely different to you?

I wrote this after seeing an old man, lost and confused at the end of his life about what he had left. Tell me what you think about it – 10 points to best criticism!

Where go I then?

Where go I when
Life has walked me to the edge and left me alone.
We live but once and the end is sour.
Bitter olives in a false spring.

Where go I now?
At this close of this day.
Saccharine tears into a salty ocean.
Remember me then for the life I gave.

Where to then?
When I have sung the last hymn,
Closed for the last time the book of life.
Sacrificed the final breath.

What tell I them?
The young, still bright with innocence.
They too, when older, will see the pain, and so
Forget forever me.

Childhood Hymns / Wedding Hymns??

When I was a child we sang from a book during each mornings assembly called ‘Come and Praise’. I always remember that it had some fab songs in. (some really depressing ones too)

Anyway, I am helping a friend gather some suggestions of hymns for her wedding.

Did anyone else sing from this book and can you remember any of the songs?? Or if anyone can just reccomend some lively wedding hymns??

Colours fo day
Lord of the dance
That sort of thing etc etc…

I have always thought there was a heaven – simply from people telling me that when someone died, they went to heaven, or there would be books I have read which are about angels coming from heaven and visiting people, or in songs such as a Christmas hymn know as “The Angel Gabriel”.

Here is what a part of it says: “The angel Gabriel from heaven came, his wings as soft as snow, his eyes as flame.”

But a fellow yahoo person has pointed out this:

Did Americans – black and white alike – fear his influence on account of a religion they didn’t know a great deal about…and how it would influence other blacks, thus adding more fear. Or did they presume the younger and more sharper minded would take on the teachings of the Koran and tell their equally intelligent brothers and sisters that the age of thumping the Bible, singing their tunes, but still being alienated by white folk who would read the same book and sing the same hymns was just not on?

Please, help me with a couple of lines, pleease?

Do you welcome the second coming?

Just now, I sang in the choir at the Remembrance service in my village. The Rector, who is somewhat of a charismatic evangelical preached about the Second Coming of Christ, using the reading about the bridesmaids at the wedding being ill-prepared because they forget extra oil for their lamps so they were shut out.

Remembrance (for those outside the UK) is a deeply moving celebration of the lives of those fallen in battle. We all wear poppies to symbolise the flowers growing over the silent battlefields of the Somme, where the best of a generation were slaughtered in their hundreds of thousands. There is the music of Elgar and some of the most emotional hymns in the book along with a minutes silence between bugle calls at precisely 11am, the time of the signing of the Armistice that gave peace for a while. All the war veterans wear their medals and are saluted by the civilians.

Now, I will add my thoughts later, when others have had a chance to say their bit.

Those brave folk who marched into battle were for the large part prepared, godly and upright. So why were so many of them wasted in the trenches?

Christ’s own reward was to be judged by a bigoted mob and cruelly and unjustly put to death, even by the Roman standards of justice. Good Christians therefore follow His example by similarly being slaughtered, like those folk we honoured today. The peace after the Second Coming is the ghastly silence of the poppy fields of Flanders.

The true message of the Second Coming is death. A glorious death, but death none the less.

Those American evangelicals who glorify and Praise the Lord Alleluia I think are fools, like the First World War generals lecturing us on glory in battle.

I rather think the Second Coming is something we should put off as long as possible.

Wouldn’t this make a great hymn for the creationists?

Don’t know much biology
Don’t know much about a science book
Don’t know much about the french I took

But I do know that I love you

We don’t hate you DRE, we just find you incredibly amusing.

And the Bible is the most accurate science book in the world? Some one needs serious help to escape their fantasies. The bible has some true but distorted history and a lot of fiction, in no way is it a true and accurate account of anything, and to even put it in the same sentence as science is a gross insult to science.

When I was on holiday, I heard a beautiful arrangement of Take My Life (And Let It Be). I can’t find it on Youtube, but it was a beautiful modern arrangement of it. It was in the key of A flat major, and I think it may be in the book of Spring Harvest 2009? If anyone could guide me to some sheet music, it would be great! It was moderately slow, but it wasn’t the original version. I know this is vague, but any help is appreciated!

yeah so. I like this guy?
Well i really like this guy. Hes not really popular and girls wont fall all over him. We are just friends, but i cant stop thinking about him. He only talks to the boys and i feel that im the only girl he talks to. He is super good at PE and he thrashed everyone in the swimming contest. Sometimes i sit beside him in Assembly and he forgets his hymn book in music so i have to share with him. His friends say he fancies me as a joke but i don’t know what to do! I don’t know if i should take a risk. He isn’t good looking but i think hes really sweet.

I am very sensitive, and shy, but I keep crying. This has been going on for ages,since primary school, I am not depressed or anything- I am perfectly happy, but even if I forget my hymn book for school, or if my friend misunderstands me, I start crying and I honestly cannot help it. All my friends think I am fake crying or something to get attention because I cry so much over small things.
How can I toughen myself up? People tell me it might be hormones, but I don’t think this is the case!

have gone 12p overdrawn because of the bank taking the overdraft debit interest (for being overdrawn).

I was told by an English person that I will be ok, I called again to confirm this as they should all be singing from the same hymn book, and and INDIAN person tells me that I will be charged!

I am angry becase they cant speak clear English so what do they know about my money !

a more balanced view on religion and help children make up their own minds. For us at school it was all very one sided with Hymns in assembly and religious studies, I would have loved to have had a book like that when I was younger. It’s helped my feelings of agnosticism a lot.
The Ideal Muggle. I think it is excellent, regardless of your beliefs it will give you a lot of food for thought.

Is it true that when you go to heaven you can only read the bible and sing hymns as there is no other music?

I sang from a hymn book in assembly called ‘Come and Praise’ but when we had our music lesson we sang things like She’ll be coming round the mountain’ ‘Grand old green machine’ ‘Catch a fallng star’ and other songs for specific events like harvest festival.
